NO Snow YEAH!

And I only had one spot with construction!!!  YEAH!

I had to be at Paonia by 6:30 in the morning!  Which means I had to hit the highway by 5:30.  I was thrilled to not have snow!

The clearness and brightness of the sky at between 0530 and 0630 hours in winter in Colorado at approximately 40 degrees latitude north of the Equator is remarkable! Comparing your winter brightness with a similar based area in Australia at those times ( our winter when you are in summer) 40 degrees south from the Equator is totally unbelievable. For example Melbourne would be about the same latitude, well in Melbourne in winter, it would be still dark at those times! What has Colorado got that Melbourne and the States of Tasmania and Victoria lack????? Maybe someone can explain this phenomena? From your blog photos, I am totally confused.
Excellent reporting and photography as usual. You can have your getting up at those undgodly hours especially in winter to be setting off to work!!!!!

  3. HB- Sorry I didn’t make myself clear in the post. Of course it is pitch black outside at 5:30 in the morning. This was taken at 2:20 in the afternoon on my way BACK to the Delta office.

Ahhhh – thank God for the clarification! I was beginning to think that there was no justice on this earth! Even here in sub-tropical Brisbane, when I was working, I would be on the rail station at 0600 hrs and it was pitch dark! I know that Colorado is pretty special but I didn’t want your State to to be so special that you had such brilliant light at those ungodly hours.
Cheers and a good laugh for us both

  5. The only thing that I hate about winter here, is feeding in the dark at 5:30 am. In the summer at 5:30, I need my sunglasses.

Great pics and glad it was a safe trip!

  6. Very glad to see all that blacktop! Yea! Driving is hard enough without having to deal with bad weather. Kristine had to drive home through valley fog this week. She only got away from it after she got up on the mountain. I used to like driving. I just didn’t like all the crazy drivers and bad road conditions. Hope the road stays clear for you.

  7. LOL Yeah, that would have been confusing if I’d bothered thinking about it at all. Beautiful drive you had. WooHOOOOOOOO! No snow!

We are all in for it this year, aren’t we! Wonder what kind of winter Aussies are going to have this summer…

  8. Lynn-It is dark!!!! 🙂 I think my hand has become shaped like my camera. I take it everywhere with me. One just never knows when a cool opportunity will come along and I can take a photo of it. I’ve even gotten rather good at taking photos while I’m driving. HA!

Kathleen-No snow! YEAH! Bitter cold 17*. I am starting to get tired of this winter. Oh, I have to remember the good in this—no bugs, no bugs, no bugs

    HB- 🙂

Teena-I’m having trouble getting onto your website. Would you send it to me in an email format when you get your computer fixed?

Vikki-We are around 17* right now with the nights low to be below zero. But Colorado can expect this, it’s the south that has me concerned. I’m sure the farmers are spending many sleepless nights trying to save their crops. My heart goes out to them. I was raised on a fruit farm (orchard) we have several, many, many, acres of fruit. Cold weather is heartbreaking.

  9. Callie-I so agree with you. Driving in NOT one of my favorite things to do. That is the ‘death highway’ of which I really didn’t want to drive in the dark on ice and snow so no snow was a real treat.

Fog is a hard thing to drive in also. We don’t get much fog, but when we do it is crystal heavy, which makes for ice on the roads. I’m glad she got home safely.

Lacy-Me also. I did my chores at 4:30 so I could be on the road in time…(the retired guy does his around 7-go figure) I think he should still work on my schedule. He just laughs.

    Is Arizona staying warm?

Kath-And I complain!!!!! You guys stay warm—pizza’s and movies sound good.

Pam-The older I get the more I think that thought. 🙂

  10. Hi

Well that was a good early morning for me laugh – fair is fair – but Colorado having that
brilliant sunshine at those hours, I was not going to permit. Then again what would I have
been able to do – phone God??? or go and bash your Governor over the head – screaming –
    “Not Fair Not Fair”.

Another weird day – so far this morning two rain squalls and then the humidity. Diane will
no doubt be up photographing her garden as it gets brighter and bigger! It will be gloat,
gloat and more blog gloats from her at the present!

Accounts to be paid today – ugh and yuck – umbrella will be to the fore! No more being
caught in rain downbursts for me this summer.

    Cheers
    Colin

We all have lots to learn about our world. It was a fair question.

Mountain Woman-I like getting up at 5:30 (Especially in the spring, summer and fall) but 4:30 is just way too much for me! I like your new header.
