The Math and Science Center

Saturday was Bladen’s eighth birthday, so his Grandpa and I (plus Mom-Mom and the little girls) all went to the Math and Science Center in Grand Junction, Colorado.

What a fun time was had by all.  All those pictured above love math and science.  Although, I like Science, math and I are not on friendly terms.  History is my thing.  They would ALL be bored if I hauled them to a different museum.

Today is my 61st birthday!  I keep getting asked if I feel old.  I don’t! I feel excited!  I actually feel like I’m a little kid getting close to starting school.  That sort of feeling. Expectation, wonder.  No I don’t feel old.  I do feel grateful and blessed and excited.

Also, the temperature outside is in the 30’s, now that is a huge Birthday present.

Yeah!

  2. Happy Birthday!!!!!

Temperatures in the 30s is a great B-day present.
When the boys were young we had a membership to the Seattle Science Center. All of us loved it. We would go 5 or 6 times a year. Worth every penny.

    Math….ack! I’m a librarian. We don’t do math.

  3. Leenie-Oh! Thank You! And a Happy Birthday to you also. Do you have big plans?

Michele- It’s beautiful! And since work started at 5:30 this morning I get to get off early. Which is nice! Bladen LOVES math, he is in the second grade and is doing fourth grade work, Linkin loves science, Terry and Misty are Math majors. Me…I don’t fit in there anywhere…history, reading, writing that’s about it for me.

  4. Happy Birthday Linda
Hope it warms up for you and have a great day. Like you I prefer history and geography well and truely over mathematics. The sun is out in Brisbane and it is raining slightly – weird!!!!! Without a doubt the strangest of summers yet experienced.
    Cheers

  5. Happy 61st birthday from Louisiana! I have a brother who lives in Lake City, Colorado and he has a webcam in his yard so I can see his mountain weather. From your blog I get to see the ‘lower land’ weather. I really do enjoy your posts and read your blog every day. Thanks for sharing a part of your life with us!

  10. Happy Birthday! I hope you had a fabulous day. Glad to hear it is warming up some. It has been unseasonably warm here this week, which has been wonderful! I’m getting antsy already for nice weather so I can start training some llamas and riding Maggie Mae. But I know we’re going to have several more months of the white stuff so I’m just going to enjoy the sunny warmer days for now.

  11. Tina Marie-We did! And Linkin made me many, many gifts. I told her she was going to grow up and be just like you!

HB-Thank you! Growing older is really isn’t as bad as I used to think. I am getting excited to be retired and see what the remaining part of my life is like.

Tammy-There are some other really cool museums down there if you are interested. I’m not sure what is in Gunnison. Are you liking living up there with this really cold winter?

Kath-Thank you, Kath! I got off at 3:30 so I got to have an hour of it….it was wonderful!

Pamela-Wow! This is a neat surprise! Thank you so much! Lake City isn’t very far away from us, only about two hours. Tammy (on the above comment, also lives right on the Blue Mesa Dam) Do you ever get out here to visit?

Julie-Fifty was a bit ‘over-whelming’ for me also. But by the time I made it to fifty-eight I had recovered. My day was special. My oldest granddaughter made me 6 packages and decorated my cake herself. It was very lovely coming from such a devoted 5 year old.

Cotton lady-Isn’t that amazing. One time I asked Momma what it was like to be 60 and she told me in her 40’s she was still concerned about how she looked, what kind of person other people thought of her, and who she was going to be when she grew up, by the 50s she had discovered looks were just that looks and it was the inside of the person which was important not only in herself, but in others as well. Although, she had found lovely friends from all ages it wasn’t until her fifties that she encompassed everyone into a form of self, not looks, then by the sixties she knew she was content. She died very close to her 70th birthday. I am so glad she was content. Two days before she died she told me she was at peace with life and living. She had just come back from a three week trip to Ireland. She is the example I want to reach.

Thank you for my birthday wish!

Lacy-Lacy, you ARE a kid!!!! You’ll see when you get my age. Thank you!

Lisa-Oh, good for you! Math was and is H.A.R.D. too much of a puzzle for me. I’m not good at games either, games are a form of math. So is sewing. Thank you!

Whit-Thank you, Whit. I will enjoy visiting with you and seeing all the cool things you make and do!

Callie-You are getting to live a part of history and so am I. Not everyone can live as you do. Many people can only dream of it. Thank you for my Birthday wish.

Diane-Oh, yes! We were there two hours and still didn’t get to see everything. The amazing part of this center is it is funded and supported by volunteer engineers and scientist in the Grand Junction area. Their life passions manifested for all to enjoy.

Thank you for the Birthday Wish!

Faith-It’s really too big for me. A city now….lots and lots of people and shopping experiences and mad rushing drivers. I’m really a recluse so it tends to over-whelm me and make me feel claustrophobic. I try to never drive down there.

Thank you for my Birthday blessing.

Brends-Sun in the mountains is wonderful. When we go to Gunnison we see all the college kids running around outside in shorts (they are silly kids still) and sun bathing on the balconies of the dorms. Just to have warmth and sun together on one day is a day of great happiness!

Thank you, I did have a nice evening with the grandchildren.
