Fall is in the Air

Fall is in the air and it’s not even the end of the first week of August.

It’s been raining here for weeks–we are heading in the the third week of rain.

The flies even seem to think a big freeze might be coming….they stick to us like we are the best thing since furnaces, ugh!

But with all this rain we get

Rainbows!

So I’m out all the time looking and looking to see what I can find in the sky

Two days in a row the sky was just right to see rainbows in the same place.  Which I found really cool.

Last night on the way to feed I looked up through the leaves and WOW another one.

The rain is really good for everything, the corn and beans and hay and my yard are looking near perfect.  And so are the weeds!

I’m not looking forward to winter, but for now I sure am enjoying the rainbows!

  1. It’s only been raining for a few days here but I also had that strange ‘early fall’ feeling. As if it was the end of August. Don’t know why but there’s something in the air. Isn’t it strange that the weather always seems to have to same changes everywhere on the planet, I always thought it was very local and now blogging shows me different.

  2. I want your weather! There is a heat advisory out for our area tomorrow as the temp is suppose to be 105F not counting the heat index! No rain here and no frost anytime in the near future. I am marking the days on the calendar until the frost hits the pumpkin!

  3. Well the rain has certainly greened up your area. Hope it hasn’t interferred
    with the harvesting programme?
Interesting to learn from your blog that the Texas commentator has only
seen one rainbow in her life? Don’t the Texans have rainbows? In Australia we have
    rainbows all over the country.
Cheers from your NEW “COMRADE”!! ( ha ha)

  4. Gosh that seemed a short summer or else time passes quickly probably a bit of both. We are having Spring type weather and the flowers are coming out. I wonder if we are in for a long hot summer? Love the rainbows and I guess farmers can’t complain about rain.

  5. You certainly have had more than your share of rain and mud. Good for you for always looking–and finding–the rainbow. But don’t wish autumn on us too soon. Hang on to summer as long as you can!

  7. Linda,
I just found your wonderful blog from your comment over at little house in the suburbs. I LOVE it. I have worked back to March this year and have had such a great time reading about your part of the world. I have lived in Grand Junction for 23 years and have learned some new things already tonight.
I wanted to thank you for making a record of your life on the western slope. It is sad to see so many changes in the last 20 years. I know that change must happen but not all of it is good. I have always lived in large cities until we moved to Grand Junction but these days I often wonder where we will grow our food if all the good land is changed to houses, which when you think about it do not need good land….just to grow some grass.
I will be back to read all of your history. Maybe a little every evening and more when the nights are longer and colder. Though tonight is pretty chilly for this timeof year, 64 here in town when my husband and I walked tonight at 9:30.
Thanks again for keeping this record of rural life and the wonderful area we are lucky enough to live in.
You are fun and easy to read… interesting, funny and educational. You are quite the photograper too!!!

P.S. When did you start your blog? I think I will start at the beginning and go forward instead of making my way back.

  8. We call gullywashers like that “road -gratitude storms,” as in, “Aren’t we grateful that we finally paved the road down here?” It used to wash out 4 or 5 times a year.

Your rainbow pictures are beautiful, Linda. We don’t see too many up here.

    Thanks for sharing!

  9. The Bossman even commented that it SMELLED like September here the other day. There’s the tang of smoke from the forest fires in B.C., it’s cool and damp in the morning and really he’s right…..it does smell a lot like fall. Beautiful rainbow…..I saw one coming home with bales the other day but forgot my camera 😦
