Harvest On Hold

It’s raining here….again!

The only farmers working are the sweet corn harvesters and the farmers/ranchers with ensilage or chop’n corn.   These guys must think a big freeze is coming, because most times farmers don’t want to work in mud.  But they have tractors pulling the trucks out when they get stuck.  The other thing they don’t like is to have half thier field out on the highway or roadways.

We are stopped until it drys out.  Pinto Beans Can Not be harvested in mud.  Rain smashes the pod down into the ground so the combine isn’t able to pick up the vines and thrash out the beans.

So we wait.

I did see a patch of blue sky last night so hopfully by this weekend we can begin again.

  1. Hi Linda
Rain can be a real nuisance at times, hopefully the Boulder region of Colorado
is getting rain to douse the forest (bush) fires?
It is raining here “South of the Tweed” which is good news as the rain is stopping
the locust plagues that are assembling. The Rain drowns them! They can’t fly in the
    rain.
I hope the rain is really not interferring with the harvest of your pinto crop?
    Cheers

  2. Sorry to hear it is raining. Sent it down here and I’ll send you are sunshine and blue skies until harvest is over. By the time your harvest is over, I will want it back as it will probably be time to harvest the cotton and grain sorghum. Hope you dry out soon.
    Beautiful sunset!

    Blessings!

  3. Sorry you’re getting more than you need of the wet stuff. Hope the storm moves to where it is more welcome. Where there are fires and dust.

Passing showers and a little warmer here.

  5. Linda, where does your weather come from? Is your storm part of the hurricane system that comes up from the south, or does it come through California first? I know sometimes we have storms that pass through here that end up scattering rain all the way across the west. We had some pretty dense clouds last night and got a few sprinkles, more clouds this a.m. that are moving through. Hope they’re not moving your way. Oh, and the high today is 75. Ick. Hope it’s not a Donner Party winter.
