New Dog on the Farm

We didn’t pick him.

Somebody dumped him off.   He was so hungry he went into the skunk trap and

bam…

We now have another dog…He looks to be around 5-7 years old, a purebred Beagle, nutered, house trained (loves to sleep on furniture—but THAT is NOT going to happen), and has good hips.

He and Fuzzy get along, Fuzzy who really doesn’t like any other dog—ever.

So Fuzzy has a new pal and (I can’t seem to think of a good name) has a new home.

Sigh!

  1. Hi Linda, WELL–someone knew that the dog would have a good home with you…. How in the world can ANYONE just dump off a dog????? GADS—upsets me!!!! BUT–glad he is fitting into the family very well.

  2. I don’t get that either but my father was one of ‘those kind’. He’d get tired of a dog…and he detested cats … and just take them out and dump them someplace. So cruel.

  3. Poor thing! I can’t understand why people do that kind of thing, but I am glad he found a good home, even if you weren’t looking for a new dog.

  4. This brought back some bittersweet memories. The summer before I went to college someone dumped a Beagle puppy on our front porch. We were inseparable for the summer, but when I left, my family had no time to keep up with a growing hunting dog.

She wandered all over the neighborhood and brought back everything that wasn’t nailed down. Finally they found a home in the country for her. When I visited her, I knew she was happier there.

Dumping a dog is inexcusable, but sometimes things just work out….

  5. Disgraceful that people could do this. It is very good that you and Terry have decided to
    give him a home.
Now if I may be a little bold re: name of said dog! May I put forward the suggestion
of “Aussie” or maybe “Banfffffffffffff” !!!!!!
    Cheers

  7. Linda, my hat is off to you and Fuzzy, you are a kind and wonderful person taking the little guy in. Do you think he might have been on the “hunt” and got himself lost? I just can’t bear to think someone would “toss” this sweet little dog away. Keep us posted.

  8. He is lucky..so maybe that is a good name for him..Lucky! Then again I tried saying Fuzzy and Lucky real fast a few times..guess not. Maybe.. Hat..you know then you can just call Fuzzy Hat! You are an angel sent straight from heaven for the animals you have rescued:)

  9. I would think finding a dog in trap would be better than finding an angry skunk. Your new friend is so blessed to find a home on a farm with folks who care. What a shame that people don’t just do a little thinking before they cart home a “cute puppy.”

Let us know when he gets a name.

  10. Hi Linda, thanks for visiting and leaving a comment. What a beautiful dog …. and how fortunate that you can give him a good home. I’m looking forward to reading more of your blog – one of the things I love about hte ‘blogworld’ is seeing how other people live (I guess I am just very nosy!!) Regards, Anne

  11. You could name him Trapper after the skunk trap episode?
He has a sweet face and looks anxious to please. Lucky dog to have you be the one to take him. And good that Fuzzy has found a friend to pal around with.

  12. We get tons of drop-offs out here. I suppose everyone does.

He’s a cutie! Beagles are infamous for how they love to run off and wander. With your large acreage, he should be very happy there. So glad Fuzzy has a new companion.

  13. Very cute dog!! Why do people do that, most of my animals have been because someone dumped them out. Well, my bees, We had our bees this was our second year. They were aggressive so that you didn’t go close without full protection, which most the time I am out not wearing it so I got stung over and over. My Mom was a beekeeper and we never had bees like that.
So this year we robbed them for the first time. Only the top super. We left them one whole super to make it through the winter. They were very angry. There must have been about 200 pounds of honey.
We took the top super back after we extracted the honey. They were so angry about two weeks, then we noticed something had changed. We got into the hive about a week or so later, and all gone, not a bee, not a drop of honey, nothing. Every thing was cleaned up like the day when they first came but no brood nothing. They just packed up and moved. It was all gone it still gives me a weird feeling.
They always had a attitude so it was like, ” If this is the way you are going to treat us we are outta here.” No dead bees either. So just a mystery.

I love bumble bees too. I can sit and watch them for hours and I love that their favorite color is purple.
    So thanks for asking.

  14. Is there any other name for a beagle other than Snoopy?? LOL. We owned 2 beagles when the kids were little and loved both of them. This is house-broken? Yeah, right until he gets mad at you for (a)leaving him home alone (b)paying attention to another dog or (c)whatever reason the dog believe he has been wronged. Then he will poo poo right in front of the front door where you will be sure to register his displeasure with you. Guaranteed! I love beagles and really love to listen to them bay. And a POX upon the irresponsible people for dropping him off. We’ve gotten several that way also. The latest a lovely Australian Sheperd we call Bob (bob-tailed). So I hope you enjoy your Peanuts Snoopy even though you did not ask for him.

  15. Ooh, would you look at that face! What a doll! Looking at him, all i can think of is Peanuts, and if i had a dog like that i’d name him Chuck. C.m. thinks Snoopy is a good name. Of course, after a few days at your place, he might well think his name is “Get Off The Couch!” 🙂

Thanks for rescuing this poor dog. Your family is amazingly generous that way!
    Fondly,
    Whit

  16. It upsets me, too. Pets are too often silent victims of hard economic times — neglected or abandoned as families are forced to cut back or relocate. It’s an extra shame because the love and emotional support of a pet are actually beneficial to people in stressful situations; everybody ends up suffering more. At least this little guy came out of it better than he went in. Congratulations to him — and to you!
