Fog

We woke up to fog this morning…

I rather like fog…makes me think I’m in London, England.  (How would I ever know, I’ve never been there except in books-but hey, I can pretend!)

Corn is still wet 16%.  This is suppose to leave by 2:00 this afternoon and then a warmer, drier air mass is suppose to come in.

We’ve set up the grain bins and hooked up the driers…might as well give the electric company some more money…the stuff isn’t getting dry out in the field.

  1. Hi Linda, I’m going to say a little prayer that your weather improves and that you all can get your corn harvested….

I like fog also. I think that fog (some people call it mist, but not me) makes great photos…..

    Good Luck…. Keep us posted.

  2. We are having very cold weather for florida. The tropical fish farmers are expecting to lose thousands of fish, the tomato crops are just coming on and other crops are planted. My son in law is sleeping at the grove so he can run sprinklers if it gets below freezing. That will put a layer of ice on the trees to protect them. The strawberries are just starting to ripen. So many farmers are waiting for the temps tonight to know what to do.

  3. I find foggy days rather ethereal and imagine something else hiding in the midst of it….palm trees perhaps 😉 Hope you get the rest of the corn done in the next couple of DRY days.

  4. I’ve only been to London once — the weather was bright and clear the whole time. That sure ruined some great images that I carried in my head.
I hope the drier weather has arrived at your place.

  5. Yes, fog gives the landscape a mysterious feeling. We seldom see it here. But the hills were gone into whiteness in this part of the world too. Sorry about the bad luck on your corn crop.

  6. Sorry about the moisture content in the corn. Your and Terry’s patience with the elements must be at full
    stretcthing point.
As for being in London on a foggy day – try the usual weather – rain. I know a day tour on one of those London
red buses all over the city and all I saw was “wipers” on the windscreens – and no refund.
Try Vienna, Salzburg,(Austria- and that is not Australia). Lausanne,Switzerland and certainly Copenhagen, Denmark.
These 4 places are to be seen before we, all go to the “Happy Hunting Ground” – thats Europe, then come to the “Land Down Under” – that’s us, me. You will have the time of your life.
Again sorry about the weather – but Australia is being flooded – left, right and centre – the cost to farmers and the nation is
    now in the many $billions.

  7. Linda, how do you test exactly for moisture content? Have you already shown this and I missed it? (Or lost it somewhere in my brain-fogged memory.)

Praying it dries quickly with this new air coming through. Why does it always take money to make money?

  8. Although London does still have fog, it no longer has ‘pea-soupers’, which were the staple of old films!! Since the Clean Air Act was passed, the smoke from industry and domestic coal fires has been reduced if not eliminated, so that the heavy fogs are a thing of the past …. sorry to spoil your illusions! On the positive side – the health of Londoners has improved with the cleaner air.

  9. I like fog, too, when I don’t have to drive in it! It has a beauty of it’s own. Hope it dries up soon for you. We always had to dry our corn in Iowa, mainly because of too high of humidity while being stored. We wouldn’t want the electric companies to go out of business, now would we??!!

    Blessings to you and Terry
