We were looking at one of the several really cool musuems in Texas when we came upon this display.
Although, we were in Texas the artifact came out of Colorado…the tip of eastern Colorado.
Completely out wire (that is a very fake and very dusty crow)
This is the other nest!
Really very amazing birds!
Windmills…everywhere!
Linda

Very smart birds as well. Ravens and crows are said to be some of the smartest wild birds out there. I have never heard that they could build their nests out of wire. Very interesting! They wouldn’t have till Spring here to move out of the windmills, the wind has been blowing now steady and hard for a week!

Hi Linda, I have read that Ravens are very smart birds…. But I had no idea that they built their nests on wires… Unbelievable…..
Thanks for an interesting post.

So cool! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if the birds found a pile of baling wire all in one place or searched many ranches/farms for it? We’ll never know.

How ingenious are the members of the animal world! I am so glad they saved these nests for people to see.

They *are* incredibly intelligent. Obviously if the display one with the nests were real he’d’ve figured out how to dust himself off, for starters. 😉
I went to a zoo once on a very quiet wintry day–few people around at all, and many animals hunkered down out of sight–and was very startled when someone said to me out of the blue, in a clear voice: “How you doin’?” It took me a moment or two of looking around to realize a big beautiful raven sitting near the edge of an aviary and watching me as I went by was the one that had greeted me!
