Sunday Stills—Roads (No Archives)

We took off Wednesday and headed over to Salida and Buena Vista, Colorado.  We were in-between the next set of work on the farm.  The only thing having to be done was the irrigation, which Misty did for us — 6 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, 10 at night.  Bladen helped.

A little vacation was what we needed!

Three days and two nights.

We only had one spot of road construction  going over Serro Summit toward Salida.  We only saw one wreck (which was great –and it looked like no one was hurt).  Traffic was light.

Everywhere is dry, dry, dry.

Coming back we headed on out of Buena Vista, Colorado, over Cottowood Pass toward the headwaters of our irrigation system…..Taylor Lake.

Wouldn’t you know it?!  There was my Sunday Stills Photo Op—-

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

A twenty minute wait while they blasted through rock while widening the road.

Everything was extremely dry.

While we were there we experienced two rain storms. One lasted an hour and the other 15 minutes.  We were delighted!

Also, while we were there we met many people from Colorado Springs who had been evacuated from the Waldo Canyon Fire and others who had come over from Fort Collins to get away from the smoke.

Also, while we were there we found out that the Pine Ridge Fire had started in our neck of the woods.  The smoke is terrible in the Debeque Canyon and in Grand Junction.  We can see the huge dark plums rising over the mountains.

So Sad!  So very sad.

Hopefully the rains will start soon.  Those two showers we experienced were just plain delightful!

Anyway, for great photos of roads head on over here and check out the comment section, click on everyone’s name and see some great roads from here, there, and around the world!

We are always wanting others to join us so please do!  You will be welcome.  Just leave Ed a comment on next week assigment and a link to your website so every one can find you!  Then link your site to the Sunday Stills site!

Have a great Sunday everyone!

  1. That’s nice you had a chance to get away. Many years ago my husband and I took a trip to Colorado. After camping one night near Almont, our car broke down near Tincup. We spent the whole day there, my husband working on the car using tools that belonged to the guy who ran the Tincup Store. Quite a memorable day!

  2. Sounds like you had a great trip! Don’t you just love it when you can see/feel rain anymore?! It poured during a wedding reception in Iowa and everyone ran out to watch it! Didn’t ruin anyone’s day at all.
Glad you were able to get away and Misty and Braden could do the irrigating. I will pray for rain for both of us! Blessings!

  3. Hi Linda, So glad you could get away for a few days… That is important I think for SANITY… ha…. Sad about the CO fires –and now all of the West VA and Ohio and PA storm damage…. We are extremely hot for us (102 for 2 days) —but at least, we haven’t had anything severe around here.

    Hugs,

  4. Good to know that you were able to leave the farm in the trusty hands of your daugher and SIL and endeavour to have a break. You deserve it. Farming/Cropping is bloody hard work especially if the weather doesn’t co-operate, and no one has any control over the weather.
As for whether the fires are either side of a range, Ed mate, Colorado is bound by 4 sides – of land – north/south/east and west from other states – no coastal fringe. Fires started in tinder box country which has not had any precipitation from above will explode and generally by non climatic conditions. These fires are mostly caused by “fire buggers”. The most despicable people on this earth. The fire authorities have experts in where and how fires start. If these are by human hands, one can only hope that the culprits are caught, dealt with, locked up for life or in some US states, fried. If locked up, throw the keys into the Pacific or Atlantic oceans. That may make hopefully the idiots who want to start fires think again. I have seen it all here in Australia. Thankfully at long last, the governments here have decided to act with severe penalties. There is nothing worse than seeing homesteads, cattle, sheep and other wildlife burnt to a frizzle.
Go get ’em Colorado if these fires were deliberately lit.
    Now off my soap box!

  5. Always good to get away for a little while. Your days are always full.
Beaut that you experienced some rain too – gives a bit of hope for more. Have been following the bad fires over there Linda – so awful. Am holding good thoughts that they will be over soon.
    Best regards, Susan

  6. Glad to hear your area is still free of fires..60 miles away is close enough. We need rain too..the fires will start here soon. I hate the thought of the 4th of July and crazy campers and their fireworks and campfires. Good to see a Mountain Road! 🙂

  7. Glad to hear you got some rain and fires aren’t that close. I hate waiting on road construction but without it I guess we wouldn’t have the roads we do 😉
