I finally got a photo or two of a hummingbird! It took lots of patience and lots of photos that didn’t turn our very good.
I hope you can see the tiny little green body getting a bite to eat in the middle of the hollyhock…
And my favorite, the hummer looking right at me wondering what I was doing.
The hummer’s have left my feeders and just feed in the yard now…
Because the honey bees have found the feeders.
Fooey!
But I have lots an lots of trumpet shaped flowers in my yard…just because I want Hummers so they are not going hungry.
Everyday I have anywhere from 5 to 10 regular little hummers that spend their summer with us. Lately we are seeing other hummers on their way through to their winter homes, so I don’t mind that the bees are cleaning up the sugar water.
I have lots of food for everyone.
Linda

I think the hummer was smiling at you. Love the hollyhocks too.

Have a great Sunday..

Congratulations! Delightful photos, delightful birds. Do you get any species besides ruby-throated? We are way too far east for any but the rarest of other visitors, but you are nearer the other kinds.

It takes a lot of patience to capture a photo of a humming bird, congratulations. Hollyhocks are one of my favorite flowers, unfortunately for me, they never do well in my heirloom flower garden, your’s are beautiful and I love the bright magenta color. Enjoy the day, Julie.

Wheee!!! Hey, at a beekeeper’s meeting the other night they said we could take a tiny bit of insect repellent and put it on the hummingbird feeders to keep the bees away. Or there is apparently some sort of feeder made to keep the bees away. We were talking about being good neighbors… Most folks are like you and me though and don’t really care so much and are happy the bees are getting a boost, eh? 😉

Wonderful pictures!!! I had a hummer give me the “evil eye” once when I was doing some trimming. I quit, thinking that maybe it had a nest there. This is Linda, using my mother’s computer. She loves your blog, especially on Friday. Thanks for helping an old woman smile!!

p.s. The Glowstick People are made by simply taping the glow sticks to clothing and bodies with heavy clear shipping tape. After the kids run around the yard and street in the dark for a while the sticks are all pulled off and left in heap. Next morning the glow is gone and they (the sticks not the kids) are put in the trash.

Good job Linda, I know how hard they are to catch. Ours will be gone in the next couple weeks. We are now down to just one or two.

It’s not easy to get a decent photo of hummingbirds, but you’ve done a great job with these pictures. You obviously take good care of your hummingbirds (and bees).

Wow, Linda that was a learning lesson. We don’t have hummingbirds in Australia,
we have a different version called honey eaters. Really interesting to google
“hummingbirds”! Guess what!!! Your feeder for the birds is just like as shown!
Red!
These birds sure are small, and wow can they fly fast!

Thanks for the lesson on something new. Well done.
