A couple of nice showers came through during the night.
Wonderful!
It’s cloudy and cooler here this morning with showers playing around us…in Cedaredge, on Grand Mesa, in Peach Valley and from my upstairs window (where my desk and office are) it looks like it might be raining in the desert between Delta and Hotchkiss.
I found out yesterday that we have FOUR (4) wildfires around us…two near Paonia, one closer to Montrose and one over by the west end somewhere. I don’t know how my source knows, but they seemed very sure. So their fires are adding to the smoke.
But yesterday we had clouds and scattered showers and then last night the cooling/healing rainstorms…no lightening or thunder, that I know of. All of this should help.
We off here in a few minutes to get our last load of firewood to get us through the winter. It takes 7 loads…I’m not sure how many cords that comes to, but seems like lots as we are loading and unloading. Then it always seems like not enough as the winter wears on. In the end it usually turns out ‘just right’.
Have a nice Wednesday, everyone! It’s cool and lovely here. Just right for hauling and stacking wood!
Linda

Hope the rains continue for a few days and get the fires out. We finished filling the wood house a couple weeks ago. We had a “duratio” in June, our first. All of the trees that were taken down should fill the woodhouse for the next 10 years. You’ve never seen such damage. I’ve got pictures on my blog showing some of the damage.

I have feral kittens in my woodshed right now, which I love. But I need to get in there and restack wood that has fallen over and don’t want to disturb them, I’ve already seen a change in the mouse population with them there. What kind of stove do you use? I have a fairly small Buck Stove and that’s what heats my house. It doesn’t use much wood, and it takes smaller pieces which makes it easier for me to deal with. My house, however, has been stuffed to the gills with insulation so it’s efficient. Well, and this is California, after all. It doesn’t really get that cold here in comparison.

Hi LInda, Wow—that rain waited ’til you got the hay finished… Isn’t that just GREAT? Hope those fires don’t come anywhere near to you this time.. Scary!!!!!
We ordered 4 cords of firewood—but didn’t use anywhere near that much last winter (when it was so mild)… We do use alot though when it’s cold –but probably not nearly as much as you use.
Hugs,
Betsy

Glad to hear you finally received some much needed rain, I hope the wildfires burn themselves out soon and I do hope you are not in danger. Our wood pile continues to be stacked, getting ready for winter never ends, but I really do not mind. Have a lovely day, Julie.

Wood is very close to my heart at the moment. even on bright sunny days, it’s so cold that we are steadily burning through our piles. And the smell is heavenly!
