Willie Nelson
The Party’s Over
Turn out the lights
The party’s over
They say that
All good things must end
Call it tonight
The party’s over
It froze last night….
I am always rather sad this time of year. (the first killing frost time)
A bitter sweet sadness always take over on me. Although, I enjoy the thought of no more dragging the hose to water, and weeding the gardens, it also means that the dark, dreary days of winter are looming just ahead.
Time to think of putting everything to bed….digging the tropical plants and storing them in the basement, cleaning up the walkways of weeds, picking up all the garden ornaments and the summer furniture.
Out in the fields Terry and I will be adjusting pipe and I will gather and bring in and store the siphon tubes for another winter.
The good thing about the freezes is the field corn will start to get closer and closer to drying down for harvest. Depending on the how fast everything dries down harvest will start sometime this month.
Happy Sunday,
Linda

Another season flew by! I think we will get frost this week too.

We did not get there. 34 but there was ice a bit anyway on the deck. 50 now with clear sky’s. but yes it’s over and the chill has made a huge dent in insect life. Before the front came through and it was in the 80’s there were yellow jackets everywhere. Putting things up and getting ready for winter as well.

Sad to see the season pass, but the world just keeps spinning…
Possible frost next weekend up here…grey and chilly today.
The Little One keeps asking when it will snow…

Yup, I gotta do the same thing. Doing the crawl space mouse bait today and will be putting the outside ornaments into storage next weekend after Gma leaves.

A perfect song to set the tone for the times. Lucky for me, I didnt get to witness the destruction from the freeze – although we drove through blizzard conditions on the way to the airport! That was a surprise as the prediction had been for snow the following day!

I agree with it all.. we are summer people you and I. But crawling indoors and having a few hours off each day might help us recharge our batteries.. c

We almost never have a killing frost here. And the weeds grow all year. 🙂

For farmers the killing frost means so many things. If it comes late, good. If it’s too early, disaster.

So sad to see a garden after that killing frost. No denying summer is over now. Very best of luck with that corn harvest.

Changing seasons…… It is sad to see one season end and another begin… But I will say that I am glad that I live in an area which experiences all four seasons… We haven’t had frost yet–but the forecasters are saying that we may get some tonight…. I’m not ready for it yet. The roses are still pretty.
Hugs,
Betsy

It is rather sad to see the droop of browning leaves after a frost or freeze. I think that is why I clear the bed as soon as I can…awaiting a clean blanket of snow to cover the loss.

I had a frost last night..down to 31F on one thermometer and 28 on another. I had brought in my geraniums but everything else may have gotten nipped. Right now, I’m ready for cooler weather, but by January I’ll probably be complaining! We’re to be up to 87F tomorrow!
Blessings!

I always feel sad when the first killing frost happens, too.
Regarding corn—-when is the earliest you’ve ever harvested?
