Thank each and everyone of you for your good health wishes!  I am doing much better today.  It was a little rough with a tremendous headache and an accident with my ring finger on my left hand.

Hills

The accident happened when I dropped a large chunk of firewood on my finger against some metal.  The wood shattered the fingernail  in five pieces, broke the nail off, stabbed the broken nail into the bed of the finger (under that nail).  The bleeding wouldn’t stop for ever so long.  There is no way to clip off the nail to stop the bleeding…just a mess.  The next morning the finger had swollen enough that it pushed the nail pieces upward which relieved the bleeding problem.

I was feeling really sorry for myself when Terry and I went to the store to get a finger guard…a huge necessity…but I can’t wear it because the pad is damaged on the other side…just a mess.

I’m stopping here to tell you a story from my past, so I can finish the story from above.

HOME

My mother was born in Texas but grew up in Corona, New Mexico (I don’t think there is much there now).  When she grew up it was a pretty nice little town, the railroad went through and lots of people came and went.

Before the Great Depression hit and before the Dust Bowl Days descended, when Momma was still very young.  She got it in her head she really wanted some white shoes with a strap across the foot that she had seen in a store window when the family went to Roswell on a shopping trip.  She wanted those shoes so bad she even dreamed about them…so she took to pestering Gram and Granddad for the shoes.  Day and night she asked.  She prayed for them at the table anything to ‘get her point across’.

But Gram and Granddad kept explaining there isn’t enough money for something of that nature, you know the story.  But she wore them down and got to go back to Roswell to “GET THE SHOES!”

On the way to the store they meet a man on a flat board scooting along, without any legs or feet!

Seeing the man without any feet made her stop and turn to her parents and tell them she didn’t want the shoes and why.

She said she got some really big hugs and they went and had a Coke at the drugstore then came home.

(She told this to me many times …. so I would understand that what you have is really enough.)

Glow

Okay…so here I am really feeling sorry about my finger when (at the check stand) we meet a young man who had two of his fingers all bandaged up.  In the conversation we find out that he got his hand in hot tar at his work.  Even though he quickly peeled the tar off all the skin was burned from his hand and fingers.

My broken and shattered nail and damaged finger tip was nothing to compare!  So I told myself to just plow forward it can always be worse.

Aky

And it can!

If the storm doesn’t come in we will start combining either later today or tomorrow morning.  Finally!

Orange

Once more Thank You so much for your concern!

Your friend,

Linda

  1. Ouch, ouch, ouch. So many nerve endings in the nail beds, but you’re right. There are always people who are worse off. Glad you can still type your blog.

  2. Oh, poor, poor you. Even if it could be worse that must be a terribly painful injury. I hope it heals quickly! That photo above, “glow” is gorgeous. What is it though? Looks like rock crystals or something similar.

  3. So glad you are back and what an experience to have. Its a really serious injury and you are right there is always something worse so we should be thankful right where we are. My DH had just got well from the flu and now has a sinus infection/bronchitis. Yeah, it could be worse but at least my chicken is all well.

Keep us posted on your healing process as it sounds like all us bloggers care for you a great deal.

  6. Beautiful photos today, Linda, and a great MESSAGE for all of us. When we get ‘down’ for whatever reason, we need to remember that there are many people out there who are MUCH worse off than we are…

Sorry about your finger and headache… Glad you are doing better now.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. You did not say if went to Doctor but you need to be careful it could get , if not already, infected. I had a bad bruise on my hand many years ago and it swelled and was so infected had to have antibotics.
Thank for the pictures. Take care. Sharon Drake

  9. I cringed when I read that post. I slammed a car door on my thumb and ripped off the nail. It took 3 months to show any sign that the nail was going to grow back, but I got lucky. It took a solid year to heal but it eventually did. Just needed to be patient.

  10. Oh OUCH! That sounds awful. Love those lights. Very pretty. Hope your finger gets better. It always seems when you have a hurt finger, it ALWAYS gets bumped. Just a reminder I guess.

  12. Good gracious! It hurts just reading it.
While I appreciate perspective, don’t lessen the pain you are feeling. My mom spent my childhood telling me how my problems/pains weren’t any big deal compared to what others were feeling. While I understand her thoughts now, as a child I felt like she was saying my problems didn’t count for much. The young man with the tar burns is just awful, but so it what happened to you. 🙂 I am glad you are on the mend though!

  13. I’m sorry to hear you have been struggling with a headache and an injury. It is amazing how quickly we can get hurt and how long it can take to heal. Take care of your finger and good luck with the corn harvest.

  14. Watch that carefully and get to the doc/er room if you see any signs of infection. Always remember that Aunt Lois died from an infection to one of her fingers.

Ouch – Cloudy nearly cut the tip off her little finger a couple of weeks ago – chopping something for dinner.

    Love you!

  15. Ohhhhh! I do love your mama’s story and I take your point, seeing the fellow in line at the store reminding you of it and …yeah, maybe your injury could be more serious (I guess no maybe about it) but still it is your finger and you use your hands in your work (and play) and it hurts!! It hurts me to think of it. So….take care, don’t pretend it’s better if it isn’t!
