Our storm arrived….bringing with it the most delicious, gentle, kind drizzle of rain you can imagine.   It started just after sunset with tiny sprinkles here and there.

By 8 o’clock in the evening Terry came in from working on the 4010 and announced the skies were weeping!  I went to see, both dogs following, then choosing to stay outside.  (It was a warmish evening and Fuzzy wanted to be outside…Boomer doesn’t like to be somewhere Fuzzy isn’t)

All night the delicious gentle rain fell causing a mist to surround us and all the trees and bushes and plants.  This morning we were wet, but not so wet it was miserable.  The dogs came in and laid down,  Fuzzy by me and Boomer as close to the fire as he could get.  It wasn’t long before they were panting but reluctant to go back outside.   It’s hard to do something when everything is dripping.

Gradually they went out…first Fuzzy and then Boomer…WHEW!  The fresh air must have felt good for them.

Today I will be helping Terry put his hydraulic pump back on the 4010. He fixed the back pump first and now we will do the front one.  We had to wait for a pump to be delivered from Abilene, Kansas, which came yesterday. It will take both of us…and a jack and other things for those pumps are are heavy, heavy, heavy.

Sometime after we get this fixed we will take a very fast trip to Bridgeport, Nebraska to get a motor for the combine — the one that he cobbled together by drilling holes in the thermostat.

It’s been a farming season of things breaking in a huge way, then having to be fixed…the 4010 with the hydraulic pumps, the bean combine with the auger, the diesel combine’s motor and the gasoline combine’s major chain under everything, which not only broke but ripped up the bottom metal and sucked into the loading chute.  Once these are fixed we should be ‘good to go’ for several more years…anyway that is what Terry is saying.  🙂 🙂

4I found the sky amazing last night…that long strip of …whatever … shows up close as a spot in another cloud.

The storm is here until Sunday…with rain supposedly turning to snow tonight.  I guess we will see in the morning won’t we. The mountains all around us are showing snow…it can stay up there, which would be perfect.

Off now to help with the tractor and the hydraulic pump,

Your sometimes mechanic’s helper friend,

Linda

  1. Glad it is a nice rain so far. I am visiting my mother before winter sets in real strong. Snow and bitter cold to set in tonight here and at home! Was hoping to beat it. Have a good time mechanizing! Blessings!

  2. Enjoying the rain, turned to snow over in the Black Forest as I slip slid into town. Glad you are able to fix the pump. It’s those little things that make your days… 🙂

  3. Linda, I have a request. When you’re in Nebraska, could you stop at a Pilot or Love’s and pick up a Nebraska refrigerator magnet for me? One of the small ones in the shape of the state? I had one and it must have fallen off the fridge. The Pilot and Love’s stations here in the west don’t have those magnets. Thanks. It’s sunny here this morning, so I guess we’ve just had the tail of the same storm you’re seeing now. Everything is crisp and clear.

  4. -20 degrees here this morning. Hi! I’ve been missing, but reading. I like helping with mechanical stuff most of the time. At least you aren’t having to do all of this in the middle of harvest!
The Gus says “HI” to Fuzzy and Boomer and that we will post a blog very soon.

  5. What a beautiful sky! I’m glad your storm hasn’t been too bad…can’t quite imagine snow yet, though! Here’s hoping the repairs go well…It’s not always easy to be the mechanic’s helper!

  6. Hi, Front hasn’t come to us yet… Supposed to turn cold here on Saturday –and then another one the middle of next week. Fun Fun…

We worked outside a couple of days last week when it was just drizzling… As long as it is not really cold (and it wasn’t), I don’t mind working in the dampness….

Hope you can get all of your equipment repaired —and ready for another season.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  7. Oh Linda, these pictures are so incredibly beautiful. I love them. And I love just knowing what the weather is doing and how you feel about it and what you see. And I so appreciate Terry’s observation that the sky is weeping. Please tell him that it is weeping here too. And that it is in a very bad, gray scary mood with gusty windows and whipping tree branches. But as you say, so perfectly, we will see morning.

  8. I’m glad to hear you got a nice, gentle rain. I hope you get many more this winter. I’m sorry that so many things have broken this season, but I’m impressed with your ability to fix things and keep them running.

  9. Linda, you are such a great worker around your farm. ..and now you’re helping fix machinery too! Good for you! Love the sky pictures and all the pink beauty. We’re getting the cold tomorrow…no snow here yet in Wisconsin. If we can get thru Nov. without it….I’m pretty happy! Hug your doggies for me!

  10. Glad to hear that after repairs, you should be good for several years. Praying that is true. ♥
Hubby is a shade tree mechanic. Literally, he says. the branch of any of a couple of oaks provide lift — with the use of a tractor — for many heavy items that need lifting. 🙂
    Have a wonderful weekend!

  11. You even get rainbows in your sunsets!

Good thing you got a farmer-man who knows how to keep things running. That’s the best way to stay ahead, or at least keep from falling behind in the farming game. Hope all of you get a few quiet days to enjoy the fire with Fuzzy and Boomer in the near future.
