I have a little hawk…he/she is an extremely friendly….

Hawk-3

He/she sits very close to me looking for mice hanging under the firewood

Hawk-2

I’ve never had a hawk be so…hum…NOT shy.  But this one is.

He/she even let me go into the house, get the camera, come back and take his/her photo.  Of course the wild birds have fled…I would too if I were potential dinner. 🙂

As for the mice…he/she can have all that can be eaten.

Hauling wood is an even most pleasant chore!

Your farm friend,

Linda

  1. sweet sweet sweet!! We like to count hawks by the road in France. Usually around the time we arrive in Burgundy, we start noticing them sitting on the fence posts by the road. They are often quite round, and always very still…waiting waiting. But I’ve never seen one as close-up as yours. Very beautiful.

  2. Isn’t is really special when wildlife thinks we’re not so scary after all?! It is so fun to be able to get up close to them. Those are great pictures of him/her, Linda.

Are you getting the snow I see in Western Colorado? Hopefully, great moisture in those “them thar hills”!

    Blessings

  3. Can that cute little hawk eat chickens ? Wonder what kind of hawk he/she might be ? Will go get my bird book to see if I can find it. It just snowed and its getting into the twenties and single digits this week. Winter has arrived but it looks as if Colorado still has fall and sun. I am very envious, Linda. Take care of it.

  4. What a great shot! It looks like a sharp shinned hawk? The only hawks that aren’t spooked by humans around here are the rough legged hawk. They show up here in the winter from the arctic. They are HUGE and beautiful!

  5. Our son had a friendly Cooper Hawk at his house for two winters and we thought we had seen it dead on the road but now there is another one, maybe an off spring.
Repairs done by husband is a full time thing here too it seems, always something to repair but the money it saves. Replacing the house wiring now.

  6. You don’t have any neighbors who enjoy falconry do you? Maybe one one of their birds escaped.

In any case what a handsome creature. Just hope he/she keeps the hunting to rodents and doesn’t have any fowl intentions.
