Hauling Junk January 23, 2014

CleanYesterday we started on the clean up of the equipment area. The first to go is the old grain head, plus a bunch of other stuff that we piled into the back of the pick up.

Loaded

Terry did all the work, I just drove the tractor to and fro.  There are just somethings I draw the line at–things that could smash something, wreck something, in general get me yelled at and make me feel doubly bad.

It works out perfectly this way.

GrabThen early this morning, while the ground was still frozen, we hauled the scrap up to Montrose, Colorado.

Lift-OffThose huge machines up there are always rather exciting to see.  This machine picked up the extremely large grain head like it was a piece of paper.

DoneDone!  The only green spot in the whole pile.

Now we start loading up stuff for the consignment sales. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but the time has come.

More-setting

The setting sun was wonder last night.  We have not been having any clouds for days, but a few blew in allowing the dying rays to bring warm colors to the winter sky.

You Farm Friend,

Linda

  1. You remember that I mentioned about George, s John Deere that he made himself , it seems that he no longer uses that one so it is not in his yard but come the summer and I will venture across to take a photo. Your sunsets are really something to see…ours are just gray but sometimes pink..beautiful pictures

  2. You two are SO busy—all year long. But–it’s good to have a schedule of when to do what during the year. I know when I clean stuff, I feel so much better. Glad you got that big job DONE.

    Love the sunset… Gorgeous!
    Hugs,

  3. Hubby and I have been doing that since we moved to the farm 12 years ago. There’s so much horse drawn and really old, rusted beyond repair equipment drug into the edge of the woods. We decided a couple years ago to haul it to the scrap yards and put the money we got from it back into new fencing supplies and it’s worked wonders but we still have a lot to move.
Your setting sun is something to amaze!! Take care and stay warm. We are in a chilly trend for the next 10 days from what we are told. It was 0* yesterday when I left for work and 9* this morning.

  4. You can tell how old most farms are by how much discarded equipment is pushed out back. I love cleaning stuff out of here, but it’s frustrating because the things that bother me most are things I couldn’t begin to move by myself. Good for you for having a yard sale, hope you get enough to fix that furnace and buy lots of hummingbird food.

  5. I guess that is what Winters are for….time to clean and re-purpose. We did that here a number of years ago with farm stuff, now I am attempting to do that in my house. Time to downsize all the “stuff”!!

Beautiful sunset, Linda! We are quite chilly here today, a high, so far, of 17*. Tomorrow a.m. it’s to be about 6* then on up to 40*!! At least it’s short-lived.

    Blessings!

  6. Well, at least you can get that big chore done while the snow refuses to fall. Love the look of all that hard-working weather machinery. But I’m glad you’ve found it a new home.

  7. Feels so nice to do some early spring cleaning. We had a company come and get all the junk stuff. they took 5 semi loads! Yea I know! Mailed us a check ( we got ripped off), but it was nice to have that stuff gone.

  8. We have a bunch of “stuff” outside to get rid of come spring, but that is a long way off yet. Good for you getting “stuff” accomplished! How did the old furnace ever turn out, hope you got to repair it! 🙂

  9. Interesting post Linda, especially for small farmers like us here in the Dales – what a completely different kind of farming life you have over there.

  10. That big green thingie is wider than my whole back ‘garden’ aka yard. I can’t even conceive of how much work your acreage must entail! I’m not keen on hearing you get chastised for not knowing it all, however – who could?
