Close to the cab of the pickup is Balou, Shannon’s dog…next to Balou is Molly, Shannon’s boy friend’s dog, the there is Boomer and Fuzzy (you know those two 🙂 ). Behind Boomer and Fuzzy is Shannon’s ex-husband’s dog Rocky, then Hank Puff the grandchildren’s dog, the last dog is Buddy’s dog. Buddy passed away two years ago.
It’s a pack of dogs, that is for sure!
Rocky and Balou are Rottweilers, Hank is a Marshmallow, Fuzzy is 1/2 Border Collie and 1/2 Sheltie, Boomer is a Beagle, Houston a Mountain Cur, and Molly is a Blue Tick Hound.
We were aware that Houston (better known as Princess) could climb trees. On every walk she went, if there was a tree close by, up she would go.
Can you spot the Blue Tick Hound in the tree?
Boomer just sat on the ground and watch with all of us
We are all very surprised. She scaled the tree sniffing and exploring the whole way. Then headed out on this very dead branch…we yelled for her to come down
Which she took her sweet time of hearing and understanding and coming down, minding is NOT something she has been used to doing.
This dog has live her whole life on a chain. She was extremely timid, frightened and half starved. I’m not sure, but I think she is between one and two years old. Gradually she is learning it’s okay to be free, but you need to come when called, you need to respond when asked to do something…life is more than a chain.
Boomer just watches Houston or Molly climb trees. He looks at them as if to say “Trees are for Birds Silly. The best smells are on the ground”.
As for Fuzzy and I…we are learning what life is like in a pack…rather over-whelming, I must say. Although, we don’t see them often when they do come over it’s a huge group to go with for a walk on the farm!
Fuzzy and I really rather like the solitude of just us for a walk. Bedlam is rather daunting.
It takes about 10 full minutes for everyone to settle down and get into the swing of how the walk is supposed to be. Then just like geese we are off…Shannon and I in the lead, the two old dogs, Fuzzy and Balou bringing up the rear.
Have a good day everyone…just think You Could Be Walking in a Pack!
Tee Hee,
Your Farm Friend,
Linda

That’s a lot of dogs! It reminds me of the book with the dog party in the tree. I can’t remember the name of the book but I’ve read it to my kids many times.

I’ve never seen a dog climb a tree, so I learned a lot with this post. You certainly have a large pack when everyone comes for a visit.

No, Boomer! The best smells ARE in the trees! I can’t climb, but when a branch breaks off and falls on the ground I canNOT stop sniffing it. Something is going on up there!
Love and licks,

When I walk my four dogs people always ask me if I am a professional dog walker. Some things you do for love that you would never do for money.

Ahhh doing what any good coonhound should do! I agree packs are tough especially to go walking with (especially if you are a micro manager like me).

At first sight of the “tree dog” I thought it was an Aussie “Blue Heeler” (a cattle dog),
but the long floppy ears gave it away.
I have never seen or heard of a dog tree climber here in Australia.
Quite incredible.
Maybe our dogs consider “terra firma” more appropriate – ha ha.
Two days to official winter – and still fantastic weather – BNE daily max. 28c,
but the nights are cooler – well and truly under the covers temperature!
The forecast is for a mild winter and that suits me to the proverbial “T”.

That is a pack you have there! That has to be funny to see a dog climb a tree–totally unexpected.

Good lookin’ pack of dogs. Maybe that tree climber would use those skills in chasing down a raccoon.

Oh no thank you — If I were there, I’d rather take just Fuzzy on my walk. More my speed and level of tolerance for bedlam.

A marshmallow? Is that a breed or just the temperament? *rubs chin*
Obviously some tree climbing in Molly’s past somewhere. 🙂
Have a wonderful Friday! ♥

That bedlam may help keep the coyotes at bay for a time. Make them worried enough to keep their den far away from your place.
Can’t get over the climbing dogs! I guess they didn’t read the manual on dog behavior. 🙂

That was so unexpected! Hadn’t really heard of dogs climbing trees and there’s two of them in the one pack – so funny 🙂
How gorgeous is that sky of yours!

How incredible to have that many dogs in the back of the truck – and to get them all in one photo! Tucker says tree climbing is for the birds. Gypsy says it is for squirrels.

What a fun post! We have a pack of dogs here on occasion too. We have our three cowdogs and when our oldest son comes to the ranch he brings his three dogs with him. He has a young lab, Baxter, who is still learning to behave in socially acceptable ways, Daisey a sweet Redbone hound, and Jeb, the bluetick ruler of his pack. At one time my son also had two other hounds that also came to visit with the rest. Let’s just say it can be bedlam at times with those three and our three. It is more exhausting than a weekend with the three grandkids!
