The Joy of Hummingbirds–Monday–August 4, 2014

One the most enjoyable parts of Summer, for me, are the Hummingbirds, the Orioles and any other little bird which eats from the feeders.

Black-ChinnedWe now go through 8 sugar water feeders a day.

Rufus(Rufus)

I know that I have the Black chinned Hummingbirds, the Calliope, and the Rufus.  But yesterday I saw a new one…the Broad Tailed Hummingbird.  I was so delighted in seeing those that I did a happy dance.

Then this morning, as I was filling the feeders, I saw my very first in my whole life…Ruby Throated Hummingbird! Oh, happy dance, jiggity jig!

Oh the joy!  I felt like I was ten years old again and the world was new!

SweetThe beautiful little Orioles as just as fun and exciting to watch.

YellowAn added bonus is they all seem to share very well.  My world is full!

RiotI hope you have a wondrous day today!

  1. They are very special birds – yes, orioles included in special! Right now we have a female Broadtail challenging and chasing a male Rufus, so that her baby can get to the feeder. 🙂 The Rufus is SO territorial! With all your feeders, you should have a pound of tiny babies! Have a good day too!

  2. You and your post brought a smile to my dismal day. I enjoy the meadow larks in the field. But at our home in the big city we have a variety of birds there to enjoy!

  3. Wow! That’s a lot of sugar feeders! I’ve tried to get hummers here, but they never go to the feeders I put up. 😦
The seed feeders go fast. We have towhees in the yard gobbling up grasshoppers! Yeah!

  4. Just love the pictures of your hummers! Ruby Throats are the only kind I’ve seen around here! Love your hollyhocks too ….they bring back such wonderful memories of my childhood! Thank you Linda!

  5. I am SO JEALOUS of your humming bird collection. You’ve set up a real paradise for them and I can see you do a great job of keeping those feeders clean and full—not an easy task. Your reward of so many little friends is SO worth a happy dance!

  6. That’s awesome that you can attract hummingbirds!! do you do anything special, or do they just show up at the feeders?
