I always think of Autumn/Fall as a Doctor Seuss World… Not only could he tell the most wonderful stories his art work took us into fanciful worlds of color and delight.
I always feel we have a rare opportunity to actually step INTO the world of Doctor Seuss when the brilliant colors surround us in October!
The days are so incredibly brilliant; so full of charm and warmth.
We are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on the inside of the house, by the end of this week (knock on wood) those things we’ve been working on (moving a door, painting, a few other things) should be done.
If the weather holds we have fences to fix: there are some broken boards —cows like to jump fences, if the other side looks yummy. and electric wire to string before the range cows arrive( sometime after the corn is harvested).
And the furnace—the ever looming furnace problem. I always feel so sorry for Aunt Benita. This was her home…it had been she and Harry’s home all their married life. Up until Harry died they had a coal furnace, then after Harry passed she needed something that didn’t require so much work. Enter the con-artist– he sold her a HUGE office complex unit that was to blow UP to heat the building. But this man created all sorts of boxes and giant pipe to try to force the UP air DOWN into the existing duct work. Therefore, it never worked. Ever. The poor Dear could never get warm. Eventually she moved in with her brother. Then we purchased the house.
Then the kids moved into the house and brought with them a Woodsman wood stove, which they used the whole time they were there, which is why we never knew there was a problem with the furnace. (Benita never told any of us that the furnace didn’t seem to work.)
While we were working at the house, Terry got to looking at the furnace (he used to be a plumber years and years ago) and realized there was a huge problem. He brought out a friend who is a master plumber and then we knew.
So now we have a furnace problem to figure out. The wood stove is still there so we can heat the house while we work, and the kids have heat when they come back each month — but we really want to get the furnace corrected—therefore the next huge project looming on the horizon.
Well, I must be off to finish up my painting.
Your friend,
Linda

Beautiful Fall colors…. Yes, a Dr. Seuss World!!!!! Our rains have almost ended (just a little more to come today)—and it’s much cooler here. Love it … This is REALLY Fall to me… BUT–we certainly did get the rain (8 inches in 9 days)….
Hope you can figure out the furnace problem and get it fixed…. Glad there is a wood stove in that house though.
Hugs,
Betsy

i hate to hear stories of folks being taken advantage of by contractors – especially big jobs like that. (we had a dreadful a/c guy install a new unit, then promptly had to hire another firm to fix everything…) anyway, good luck with the furnace!

I LOVE fall, even if it leads to winter. I love the colors and the temps and the light! We have lovely color right now but are expecting big winds later today which may blow it all away.
Your furnace project sounds incredibly intimidating!

That is ugly about the furnace. Sorry it is giving you so much trouble. When we moved up here we discovered a not-dissimilar story. An unscrupulous salesman had installed air conditioning duct where furnace duct needed to be. My poor mother-in-law must have always been cold! The darned stuff collapsed when hot air hit it, so you can imagine how cold it must have been. Hope you can get it fixed all right.

Con artists who prey on widows will have to answer to an angry God one day. In the meantime, a beautiful dove fills the heart with hope.

I really like your description of Autumn as ‘a Doctor Seuss’ world. That’s very appropriate and your photos are beautiful. It sounds as if the furnace is going to be a major project, but I hope Terry can figure out a way to fix things without too much hassle.

What a pretty lady. I’m sad she got forced out of her house early because of a poor job :-(.

Good luck with the furnace — I hate hearing that sort of thing. (Aunt Benita’s brain was probably frozen and that’s why she forgot to mention the problem ;>)).
Yes, your Autumn light is indeed creating a beautiful bright shiny world. I love Fall and am glad we get to experience it this year.

We’re discovering some quite scary home plumbing and electrical jobs carried out by the previous owner which need to be fixed pronto! The worst is a defect in the patio lighting which means the whole steel beam and roof structure could go live! Needless to say we’re not using it for now… Good lucky getting everything fixed up the way you want it, including an imaginative and hopefully inexpensive solution for the furnace!

Not a good time of year for the furnace to have problems that is for sure. Hopefully it is a reasonably quick fix. Wood stove is always nice to have for a back up. I am glad that the furnace is our back-up.

1) love fall to
2) sorry to hear about your troubles, pray it’s fixed by holiday! We had our water heater blow and we had to take out two walls, move plumbing and replace half the subfloor of our mud room one week before I was to have 12 people in my house for Christmas. Lucky for us we found a really good carpenter who was working on pole barns and wanted an indoor gig for a cold snap. ( sorry that was long, just wanted you to know I feel your pain!)
3) I laughed at the random dove picture!

Your poor Aunt Benita! Sad to hear the con artist would do something like that to her. Best wishes in finding a solution soon!

Those pictures are sooooo lusciously warm and wild and beautiful. The color is miraculous. I love your reference to Dr. Seuss. I think about him all the time! There are some trees here that have a really funny shape due to the way they prune them, and I always call them The Dr. Seuss Trees. Funny. Your Aunty was very lovely wasn’t she, even if her tootsies were frozen. What a smile. x

Didn’t you and Terry take on a major furnace issue at your house just last year? I have a feeling you may be cursing at furnaces!

Yep. Dr. Seuss colors in Idaho too, but the wind blew a lot of the color away last night. Preparing for hunkering here as well. A furnace you can trust is a necessity. Honest people who sell and service you home…priceless.
