“It was June, and the world smelled of roses. THe sunshine was like powdered gold over the grassy hillside.”—Maud Hart Lovelace, Betsy-Tracy and TIb
It has been hot here. Very hot! The thermometer read 106* yesterday around four o’clock in the afternoon. And supposed to be even warmer today.
I love the heat! Yes! Really I do. Although…. walking outside is like pushing aside those heavy curtains on stages…the ones usually made of red velvet with gold trim.
The air is perfumed with the incense of rose.
This morning sunrise is a visible promise of more sun-heated shadows under trees and along buildings.
As the sun set, last night, the birds and insects started falling silent—until it was
just us, Terry, Boomer and I–the running water, the cooling earth
And the Strawberry Moon.
From my world to your heart,
Linda

Odd to be that hot – like Grand Junction…it must be roasting!

I guess I’ll have to stop complaining about the heat here — we at least have stayed out of the triple digits. The three of you take care in that heat.

This hot, but humidity makes it worse.

I love the heat too. So nice to see hollyhocks, there were lots of them in different colors in the yard when I was a kid. Lovely clematis too. Enjoy the warmth.

The only bad thing is I can’t really work in the yard from 11 until 8 at night. Otherwise YAY!

The humidity is the worst, the heat not so bad.

The red velvet curtain is the perfect comparison for those hot days. That’s just what it feels like.

Yesterday was our Winter Solstice. 72°F during the day, and 54°F at night… a lovely winter’s day and a pleasantly cool night to sleep in. No strawberry moons for us, there was cloud, but it’s cleared to another beautiful cool day. Today, I’m off to Mackay Show, to look at chickens, preserves, handcrafts, flowers, fruit, vegetables, paintings and who has the talllest sugarcane! The Husband will trail along patiently after me, so long as he is allowed a Dagwood Dog afterwards…

Oh, I’m so glad to know another Betsy-Tacy lover. I think the motto of the group is…”I thought I was the only one.” My husband and I went to Mankato last year to donate my collection of antique clothes to the museum. We can’t wear them anymore as they are just too fragile. I think they have already had an exhibit of the shoes. Men’s shoes are very hard to find. Betsy’s father had a shoe store in the novels and maybe in real life.
Thanks for your blog, your pets, your family, your cheerful attitude and now for being a Betsy lover.

We saw news about your heat yesterday, and I thought of you. I love heat too, if it’s dry, but a add a bit of humidity and I complain with the best of them. Grew up in the South, where the hot humidity was like a wall outside your door. Impassable. Take care and keep cool.

Lovely! I saw the Strawberry Moon but was too lazy to go in and get my camera. Things are blooming here too. I love the pink lily.
