Last Night I Dreamed of Spiders —- Monday, January 29, 2018

Last night I dreamed of spiders….lots of spiders.

Crazy big spiders, tiny tiny spiders, spiders of all shapes and sizes; spinning webs here and there and everywhere.

Spiders creep me out.  I know! I know! They are an important part of the ecosystem.

But once when I was a young child my mother was bitten by a Black Widow Spider and almost died.  It was a long, slow time of recovery for her—and I never forgot it.

Then several years back I was bitten by a cousin of the Brown Recluse spider, which resulted in a hole on my forearm.

I dream that I had to walk through their webs, while the spiders were spinning, climbing, hunting and even snacking on their victims.

I remember going to a drive-in movie show with my parents where the two features were THE SPIDER and the second one  The Fly

I spent the whole time crouched on the floor in the back of the car.

It was a long night.

I’m so glad it’s morning and I left behind those thousands of eyes, round as marbles, in their sticky paths of silk hanging in the air….watching.

Whew!

I guess I was just way too tired when I went to sleep.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

  1. Ugh. Spider dreams are the WORST. I have them every once in a while and always wake up screaming. How frightening that you and your mom were both bit by nasty spiders. I try to leave them alone when I see them outside, but inside my house is when I pull out all the tools of destruction from my arsenal — the vacuum cleaner for those long spindly spiders that hide in the corners, heavy boots for the floor crawlers, and for those big nasty spiders that hang from the window screens I use foaming oven spray.

  2. Linda, Be aware that some ‘hackers” have invaded WordPress. Let me know if you want more details…But at least change your Passwords for everything to a Strong 12-14 digits, numbers and a few #-$-* Upper and lower case. I suggest you make a Sentence that makes sense only to you about someplace your have visited. No names of people, places are only. Use the 1st or 2nd letter /number in the sentence for 12-14 characters. Just trying to help.

  3. They say that dreams of spiders can represent two things: building/engineering things or connections. After all, spiders are excellent construction engineers and they spend their hours making connections. Do these fit your situation? More likely, because of your history, the spiders are symbolizing your fear in the waking world. Perhaps the fear of inadequate rain and irrigation water?

      • I dream of tornadoes she. I am upset – you can’t run and you can’t hide; they can’t be stopped. (I grew up in tornado alley.) it’s usually a sign that I’m upset about something and haven’t consciously faced it, like a niggling suspicion of a health issue or not acknowledging how much something upsets me. I hope the spiders stay away Because their need to remind you of something is gone.

  4. Oh my gosh, when I was in second grade I had a bad case of pneumonia and I still remember the fever dreams – spiders all over my bed! I still dislike the creepy little beggars.

  5. I wrote an article ‘Arachnophobia’ a while back, about my colleague who is a horticulturist who is terrified of spiders! Incidentally, the movie was filmed near where we were studying horticulture at the time.

  6. I’ve had those scream out loud dreams about spiders too. My daughter said it was something about reclaiming my power or something. Makes you not want to go to bed at night. I don’t remember dreams often but when I do, it’s one like that. I looked it up and sent you one of many links to the meaning of dreams about them. Sometimes a bit of understanding diffuses the fear. Good luck tonight.

  7. Hope your dreams are better from now on, spiders are yucky. I dreamt of a big old web the other night but it only had one tiny spider to squish. Give yourself permission to escape.

  8. Oh you poor girl! So sorry to hear about your Mum getting biten .. nasty! I’m not overly enamoured with them, but in saying that, I would never hurt them. I was driving with a friend just recently who asked me to pull over, she then grabbed a tissue and picked something off me and flung it out the window. She then informed me, it was the biggest spider she had ever seen! Yuck .. Interesting that daddy longlegs will bite .. I must stop picking them up 😃
