Driving home one evening Terry and I saw black smoke rising swiftly and darkly on the horizon
It was still strong and black on the Uncompahgre Plateau when we went out to change the water.
But, the fire map I consulted didn’t mention anything, so I guess this is subscribed burn.
Sure looks scary to me.

Any fire looks and smells scary now. In France we have a lot of neighbors that burn their trash. And it’s terrifying in the summer months to smell the scent of fire surrounded by all the heat and dryness…you just cross your fingers and hope they are paying attention and that a controlled burn really is controlled.

I know. This thing is huge, which tells me it is covering lots of ground and taking down lots of old trees. We are extremely hot and extremely dry here…just seeing smoke makes me shudder.

A fire is always scary, even if it is a controlled burn. Hopefully this fire didn’t get away from anyone.
