Blue Mesa Reservoir is the primary Reservoir from which OUR irrigation water flows THROUGH.
Our irrigation water comes from Taylor Park Reservoir, owned and operated by the Uncompahgre Valley Water Users. The Water from Taylor Park flows into the Gunnison River through Blue Mesa Reservoir then out to all of us.
We took a short trip (it’s about an hour or so to the reservoir) to see how low it is.
It’s low.
You can see by the water line.
Gosh, I sure hope we have lots and lots and lots of snow this winter.
For our water in the Gunnison and the Uncompaghre flow into the Colorado River and all of you know how bad THAT is.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
All this time I thought your water came from the Umcompadre (spelling) River down from Ridgeway. How does it get up to your mesa? Outside of Olathe?

Our water comes from Taylor Park to the Blue Mesa Reservoir, then down through the Gunnison river through a huge series of canals. The Uncompahgre River flows out of Ridgway Reservoir and also comes to us in a series of canals. Then everything flows together (all the irrigation waters and the rivers) at the Confluence of both rivers in Delta. From which they flow into the Colorado River in Grand Junction.

Looks low, but it’s been lower. Farmer’s Almanac is forcasting a winter you aren’t going to like… But it will be good for the water situation.

We need a winter of snow—I will just have to buckle up my belt and wear my boots 🙂

Such a pity that we here in “Down Under” can’t export you our constant rain!
Records everywhere for this year, and 3 1/2 months to go ! , but I have read from rain experts that the Northern Hemisphere WILL get rain for your upcoming winter. So don’t despair yet. You may certainly need those boots for the mud and slush.
Cheers
Colin
