Time Moves on in It’s Soft, Silent Way — Thursday, August 31, 2023

Our world is still full of the song of the swallows—

But the signs are there.  Sadly.

They are gathering now.  Spending lots of time on the electric wire, chattering and singing.

I love these little birds!  They are the last to come in the Spring

And the last to leave in the Summer.

Now they are starting to queue up, disciplining themselves for that long, long flight to other places

Only they know when it is time to take off.

I hope I get to see them gather into a large swirling murmuration;

So I can wave goodbye!

I got to do that ONCE!  Only once in my 74 years.  Maybe I will get to do it again.

Only time will tell.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Linda

  1. Oh I hope so! That would be so awesome to see!
    Our tree swallows didn’t stay here this summer. They came in May fir a couple weeks, then moved on. I always wish they’d stay.
    Lately, some of our birds tend to sit on the bird bath and stare at the sunroom… Guess they are saying “till next year”… And the next day, they are gone.
    Love those little guys! Hope you get some photos of the murmuration!

      • I love it when I see the ones that share the same name as the ones we have here, but are so totally different in appearance 😀 Like Robins, in the land of birds 🐦 Elsewhere they are huge and look more like our sing thrushes, whereas here they are tiny little chappies with fat little red breasts and they are the gardeners best friend! 🫠
