I grew up on a Northern Plains farm back in the 50’s and 60’s. Much of my family is still engaged in agriculture. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 72 years, it’s that my farm upbringing was so different from most Americans that I just as well been on a different planet. My values and beliefs really are out of sync with most. Working 12-16 hours a day (yes, 7 days per week) was the norm. When I went to college, I didn’t even realize that most people had weekends off! And, to this day I can’t eat supper until 9. Growing up with no money or indoor plumbing, but 600 acres with a prairie stream to explore was real wealth. Although near poverty, I think I was the most privileged kid ever.
Java Bean: “Ayyy, it’s true, the hawk has to eat, and so does the spider, but that doesn’t stop Dada from rescuing the honeybees he finds in its web out front!”
I watched this same thing play out yesterday afternoon. The little bird escaped and the hawk landed on the fence and shook itself a couple times before flying off. We’re not as open as you are, more trees, bushes etc. here in north central Indiana.
What an excellent capture!! Fly safe indeed! Hawks – I am not fond of them hunting around here!

Me either. They can go to the Upper End or the Back Forty, but not right here in the farm yard. Thank you

I think you were too. Us farm folk might be poor, but we didn’t know it. 🙂
