Yes, indeed. He did square bales when I was small. He’d hire a bunch of young men to pick up the bales from the field and put the bales on a trailer. They would unload the bales into the barn. When I was in middle school, he brought a round hay baler and a lift with prongs for his tractor. I always thought the tractor carrying the hay bale looked like it should tip over.
I have two clumps of volunteer alfalfa in my front yard. I like them and the bees like them, but today I had to cut them. I thought to myself, “Me and half the farmers in Colorado.”
This brings back memories of when I was growing up on a farm. We would help a neighbor with his hay and he would hep us with ours. Even with the help I was always tired at the end of the day.
