Baby Hay’s First Cutting

The new planting of hay was cut for the first time last week.  At the time of this writing it is baled and stacked and water is running down the furrows.  Terry said it is possible that we will get another cutting before the first frost.

Normally we only get one cutting of new hay, and that is closer to September.

It Official! I have Three (3) THREE Roosters!

How do I know?  Well, as I was standing in the Chicken house, opening their trap door, two of the chickens tried to crow.  What a funny sound the developing male chicken voice makes.  Just like any maturing young male!

Polka-dot Boss quickly ran outside and then crowed!  Oh, yes, and he has lost ALL his polka-dots and has developed really beautiful green feathers.   I’m sure the other two will catch up to him, with their own beautiful feathers, but right now his are just a little more developed.

Goodness!  Three roosters!  What do I do with Three roosters! There is just ‘no way’ I can kill them and put them on the table…. I guess I will just have to wait and see how things sort themselves out.

Polka Dot Boss Switches Sides (Maybe)

I ordered all hens, but I am beginning to wonder if I have a least TWO roosters, maybe three!

Which means….Polka-Dot Boss is a rooster, not a hen!

I really hope these roosters are gentle, kind, and not fanatics.  The last two I had were Not gentle and kind and were definitely fanatics.  I had to get rid of them, a couple of the girls were worn down to bloody combs and absolutely No back feathers.
At the time Bladen was two and eye level to the roosters, of which the roosters thought that he would be a good sparing partner.

No question about it, they had to go.

Now I will just have to wait and see how these personalities turn out, but what I really hope is they are just two fast maturing hens.

Anyway, the chickens are now two-months old.

Long, Beautiful, and Yellow

Another Brugmansia is blooming. This one is yellow with very long tubes. These plants are early this year, by about six weeks!

They are just so beautiful and a nice addition to my yard.

Polka Dot Boss

Polka Dot Boss is growing up.  She has developed her comb and (sadly) is loosing her polka dots.  I had hoped she would keep the dots.

Shoot’n Feelers

The beans are shooting feelers, it won’t be long now until they start blooming, and the rows grow shut.

Clear as Mud

For some reason the irrigation water is especially muddy this year, it seems to be more so than last year.

Even after it runs for awhile, it is still rather muddy.

Fuzzy is Part-Water Dog

Fuzzy LOVES to play in the ditches, he snaps at bubbles, splashes in the water, and is very happy when he can jump in a catch something.

Blue and White

This year I thought I would make my yard into shades of blue and white (blue in the plant world is mostly purple).

So that is what I did, then July came and I found out that ….I love the pink and white and yellow and …. Well you can see my yard is NOT blue and white.

Our Woodpiles Grow

I think maybe we have enough wood for the winter.

The next thing will be split and stack all of this mess.
