Another Rite of Spring!

We were over at the equipment hillside when we saw smoke coming from the area where our house is

fire

Since one of our neighbors caught part of our place on fire three years ago, the smoke made us hoof it over the old corn field rather fast.

Then we found out it was the ditch company getting the canal ready for water.

What a relief!

  1. Happy Birthday to Tallen. My youngest will be two in may. How is this possible? We saw several farmers burning this weekend. Our town also had a fire in an old flour mill. It was an eye sore, but still a landmark. It was burnt down ( well all most) this weekend. Teens were to blame for this.

  3. Oh, I know the terror you must have felt! When fire starts here, acres for miles is lost because of the dry conditions. So glad it turned out ok. blessings,Kathleen

  4. Well it looks like it burned well! Now it will green up really fast if it rains. I am sure lots of weed seed are burned up that way, probably takes care of the taller vegetation too. I should burn my wildflower area, but we still have snow:)

  5. Glad it was just the ditch! Our neighbors across the road are real fire bugs, I mean they will set the ditch on fire right across from our house and just take off and leave it. I could never be so confident, I have to keep a close eye on any fire we set!

  6. Well ya know, that just raised my confidence level… since I moved to Kansas last year, I’ve often wondered if these fires ever get out of control, or perhaps these farmers REALLY know what they are doing!
