When walking the shelter dogs, yesterday morning, these returning birds made a great landing and settled in for the long winter stay.
These Canada Geese picked Confluence Lake Park to settle in and rest up a bit. Later in the morning they will head to Confluence Lake.
It won’t be long now when we will see them in the harvested sweet corn fields.
They will have to wait for the feed corn and some of the pinto bean fields to be harvested, but they can settle down in some of the onion fields as they are going to market.
Hummm, I forgot…pinto bean harvest has started here for some of our neighbors. If the weather holds (no rain for two weeks) our pinto beans will be harvested and at the Beanery ready for purchase.

Your beans are wonderful indeed too! We still are not seeing migrating geese, but I suspect that it won’t be long.

Mmmm. ..pinto beans. Onion fields nearby are being harvested. I love the sacks standing in the fields. And an occasional onion dropped along the road when trucks are loaded….

Canada geese can be a real nuisance. They really like the green grass on golf courses. They will be here for a long time yet. the northern geese won’t show up for another couple of months.

Your fields are beautiful, the shelter dogs are lucky to have you. And if the geese migrate as they’re supposed to (and they probably do in Colorado) then you’re lucky to have them. Most of them just don’t ever leave from here; when they’re only occasional, part-time visitors they’re much easier to appreciate (IMHO).

I heard the first big flock pass over a week or so ago…right about the time the barn swallows left us. The signs are gathering, but the 85 degrees/80% humidity today says summer’s not giving up without a fight!

The geese are thoughtful enough not to make a mess on the walkways it seems. It’s so great that you are helping with these unfortunate doggies.

Oh dear some funny comments on the ‘Canadian Geese” invasion.
I recall that I encountered them in Rochester, Minn., where the locals had
a great disdain for them. I thought they looked lovely all trooping around in
the various parks and plazas!
The joys of my admiration were rather short-lived. I had forgotten as
Ed so aptly puts it that members of the web-footed variety are great “poop”
machines. I think in my great admiration of them enjoying life in the parks that
I managed to step into every second “poop”. Absolutely filthy sneakers!!!!!
I was very careful in my future meanderings around Rochester – the footpaths
and manicured lawns were closely observed before I delighted in admiring these
geese.
