What can I say—
January arrived last night in April…
We woke up at the crack of dawn to this…..and, of course, not complete with out wind chill.
Really sad. I don’t remember this ever happening in all of my married years…
Everything is frozen and turning black as the sun rises.
Sigh,
Linda

Aw, Linda, I am so sorry. How heartbreaking! This darned “spring” has sure been one for the record books.

Are those Iris that have come up? Ours are barely out of the ground. They closed all the schools unnecessarily yesterday…maybe an inch or two of snow. This morning it was zero degrees.

I’ve a feeling the same thing is going to happen to us. It’ been in the 60’s since Saturday and your storm is heading our way, again, and just as the fruit trees are starting to bud!! 😦

So sorry to see this, Linda! When I saw your leaves, I had to go check my iris and daylilies! It got down to 22 here and, yep, the leaves are drooping badly. Not flat on the ground like yours but they look sick. The warm spring weather came too early and stayed long enough to get everything growing and then, BAM, back comes winter! Grrrr!
Blessings on your day!

Ugh! Same here. 12 degrees this morning. But our gardens might not be as far along as yours. I have a few tulips but I think they froze a couple of weeks ago. Such strange weather! Still, some of it might surprise you. I hope you got lots of new rain/snow in the reservoirs.

Sad, Linda…. We had that happen here in about 2007… Everything had bloomed early –and in April, we had 2-4 days of freezing/frigid temps…. Everything turned black… It was a sad spring that year… I’m so sorry that it happened to you.
Hugs,
Betsy

It might be time for us to put up a “Help Wanted” sign and see if we can hire a new Mother Nature.

That is awful! It is supposed to be 89 here today, so we have the opposite going on. I just found out that we are supposed to get a plague of cicadas this year…which happens every 17 years. That should make for a loud summer!

We had that night before, I covered the things that were up farther than normal (an asian lilly and some of my iris) and left the stuff that I knew could stand it – the daffs and tulips. I “think” I saved most of it. Typical for us this time of year though.

Even though we know Spring is temperamental, this arctic weather is just double crappy. Glad it’s blown over but I’m sorry for those in the mid-west who are getting hammered by it now. My sympathies to your gardens.

I empathize Linda, Last year we had a very early spring and the late frost ruined every fruit bearing tree, etc. etc. I do hope the moisture will be plentiful for you. We’ve gotten close to 2 inches of rain and it’s going to turn to snow after dark. Trees are budding but Nobody’s complaining out here in farm country because it has been so despairately dry. Everything begins with a blade of grass….
Thanks for posting as I was wondering how you were doing out there during this latest weather maker. I knew it was serious when the big road between Ogalalla, Ne. and Cheyenne, Wy. was closed. Hang in there.

That’s a lot of frost! Some of this stuff should come back but it is disappointing. We weren’t even that cold last night. We were minus 1 C at 7 A M

Here on the other side of the range…woooo chilly!!! I’m ready to plant until my eyeballs turn green. If I hadn’t listened to a plant person. I would have frozen my peas before they even sprouted. Waiting ’til Mother’s Day to plant, like a good little gardener. There is always next spring for your pretty flowers! : )

Linda, that iS a heartbreak… how did the apricot trees cope with the wind as well as the snow?
Hope you’re all keeping warm and sitting it out in front of the fire…

How awful. My garden is still under a blanket of snow. I am hoping the snow insulated the plants enough. But heck.. it is moisture!

We were 4 degrees at morning feeding time earlier this week. And more snow is forecast for next week? This is exhausting. You’re so right. This is winter weather, not spring.
