First off Carolyn from http://roundtoprumings.blogspot.com
The butterfly is a Milbert’s Tortoiseshell, also known as a Fire-rim Tortoiseshell. It’s gorgeous! Pretty Cool!
Yesterday I tried to capture the Rufus Hummer
With all of these photos
Was just so darn different
I just couldn’t resist!
Tomorrow I’ll get back to our regular life, but last night I just had to sit and try to capture this little bird!
Linda

He’s lovely. I can see why you were excited! I’ve never seen a humming bird like that.

Lovely! We only have ruby-throated hummers here, though rarely, say every few years, a juvenile rufous will show up somewhere. I never get to see those, though.

I loved the picture of your ruffus hummingbird. I live in southeastern ohio along the Ohio River and I have a feeder hanging off my front porch. I have ruby throated hummers and the grey hummers that is all we see here. I have five or six at a time eating at mine. They eat about a quart a day. I love watching them. I love your blog. I have a cousin who lives in Broomfield, CO and a grandson who is moving in august to Boulder. I hope I can come visit your state some of these days. keep writing I seem to have made a new friend in you. Dixie

PS I truly have some blog friends who put as many as 25 – 50 photos in one post… I put ALOT –but many people put many more than I do –or many, many more than you do. SO–not to worry!

He’s a beauty. I thought for a moment (because of his red chin), that he might be a color variant of the ruby-throated. I had no idea the male rufous had those colors. Here’s a great website for all birds. http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/rufous_hummingbird/id

You are so lucky to, first have all of those lovely hummers and secondly, to be able to have feeders out. Dratted bears keep getting into my feeders, so I have to be happy watching for blue jays and pileated woodpeckers.
