We started the pinto bean harvest –which reminds me, Terry raises Bill Zee pinto beans.  Pinto beans have many different types of beans just like apples have different varieties.

Combine

Everything was going really good

Unloading

Until around Three in the afternoon

When the auger broke.  A belt.

The hopper had to be unloaded by hand.

Grand-Mesa

This is the sunshine on Grand Mesa

What a day..

Turning-to-hay

That evening I went up to fork the ends on the hay and to fluff the rows. (While Terry changed the water).

Tiny

I must say I enjoyed myself  very much, I even saw a tiny (almost) rainbow.

Sunhole

The hay is ready to bale.  I’m not sure if Terry will bale today or tomorrow morning, but he will have to soon.  Plus keep on combining.

Suntay

Lots of work hitting us right now, but when we are done we can take a break until the corn is ready.

Pink

Exhausted but happy,

Linda

  1. Oh no! YIKES! Unloading by hand. Makes you appreciate equipment when its running properly. I always think of the tough guys and gals when they did everything with horse and by hand! TOUGH! Beautiful sun peaking through pics!

  2. Why does our machinery always break when we least want it to Linda? Glad the rain is holding off. We have got all our silage in today and are relieved as rain is forecast for tomorrow plus a drop of ten degrees in temperature.

  3. I love the way you can appreciate the beauty of the day even in the midst of your hard work and/or when you’re exhausted. It is easy to see how you love what you do and where you are. I had no idea there were different varieties of pinto beans and I plan to visit Mr Google to find out more.

  4. As your first commenter said, Linda, you do paint beauty into everything. When I read that you were harvesting pintos I thought of the beans you sent me several years ago and I still thank you for them. 🙂 How is your daughter?

  5. You got some amazing sky shots. I’m glad that in all the busyness, you still find the time to seek out beauty to share. Sorry it’s taken so long to get by to visit, still catching up from last week.
