I thought it would be fun to show you how tiny our City Hall used to be.  ( The photos are on file at the Delta County Museum and Historical Society or with the City of Delta)

Delta City Hall

Delta City Hall – from 1910 to 1962 – 3rd Street (where museum courtyard is today photo provided by  Jim Wetzel, Curator)

Below is the City Hall now….amazing how fast a town can grow from the above little office to what is needed today.

When I was a child what is now City Hall was a bank.  I think it was called The Bank and Trust or something of that nature.  I can remember going in there and putting money in my savings account.

I also remember how stunned I was that I didn’t get to have the exact money I took in back out…just a paper book with the amount written on a little square of how much I had with the bank.

This is the museum court yard today.  (Where the original City Hall stood)BellsIf you ever get a chance to stop by the bell collection is extremely nice, and the original log cabin is fascinating.  (I think I could be a pioneer, I really do.)

Our weather is very nice right now.  I got my yard put to bed and all the weeds pulled for the year.  Today I plan on cleaning the trucks, Terry’s pick-up and my car.  Then I will be taking Linki to soccer practice in the afternoon.

I hope this weather stays for some time, having this nice weather is really a gift for corn harvest.

No, we haven’t started corn harvest yet, maybe November 1st.  Terry will take some corn down and have it tested that day to see.  Everyone is gearing up, but the corn is still high moisture so we wait.

I hope everyone has a good day!

Your Friend,

Linda

  1. Funny little sign to have in the window of the City Hall (The Beat goes on… goes on…).
I’m glad you’re getting lovely weather. Hoping the moisture numbers are continuing to plummet in the corn!

  3. Sure would love to get those last 60 acres of our beans in the bins…uffda…maybe tomorrow if the weather holds. Drying is expensive! Our yield was down this year…too little rain when it would have counted. Been in drought for the past two years. Glad we are getting all this fall moisture, but it could have held off just a little while! 😉 Lots of corn standing here as well. I know everyone is anxious to get the harvest in. Fingers and toes crossed!

  4. Hi Linda! Our corn is still standing in the fields here in Wisconsin too….although the farmers are working on the soybeans now. With our latest streak of frosty weather, we finally got rid of the annoying box elder bugs. ugh. Hope you can get your corn in soon. Love your blog. Keep up the great work!

  5. Linda, thanks for that photo of the old Delta City Hall. I remember it looking pretty much the way it appears in the picture. I think that bell on top was originally a fire bell to summon volunteer firemen, before they put the siren up on top of a building downtown (Elks lodge?) and up on the edge of Garnet Mesa. Also, seems like there was a water spout on the side of the building where people who had to haul their water could insert coins and fill up their water tanks there.
The bank you’re referring to was the Colorado Bank & Trust, at least when our family banked there in the ’60s. At that time it was the only bank in Delta.
Best to you and Terry on your fall harvesting.
