Bladen brought me over a gift. He knows how much I enjoy ‘times gone by’. Because he hasn’t been feeling well (he has been fighting pneumonia for three weeks (he is on medicine) and got bored. (No physical exertion with this mad disease).
He spend several hours, cutting, gluing and creating a castle for Grammy.
How sweet this is!
My yard is doing well…although we have extremely hot days (94*-34ºC) the night are cool (49*–9.4ºC). By the time the heat builds up the hot winds develop.
There is also flooding in the low lands.
The Gunnison and the Uncompaghre River are experiencing record melt (translated that means we had lots of really nice snow in ‘them thar hilsl’. 🙂
Both rivers converge at Delta..our town. Once they converge (the Uncompaghre River (Un-come-pah-gray accent on the pah) merging into the Gunnison River).
The Gunnison River flows on down to Grand Junction, Colorado, where it meets up with the Colorado River, the Grand Old Dame of Rivers of the West.
The flood warnings and floods are all along all the rivers clear to the Colorado-Utah border. Sure does help with drought…water that is.
It’s the little things the buoys us up really.
Like this…a duck swimming with a bunch of goldfish. I thought he might be looking for lunch, but the fish were not afraid; they swam all around his feet and even touched him several times.
Speaking of birds…we have several Canada Geese who have decided to stay with us this summer. They have nests in our upper end and hang out in the fields.

Ah, I love your stories of your life and family. And I love your garden. So sorry that poor Bladen is sick….but what a wonderful gift!

And that is why I enjoy reading your blog. Thanks for sharing all your little things with us. The birds really look like they are conversing and the castle is precious. Your irises are beautiful, but what is the hot pink/red flower with them?

I really like the castle Bladen made for you. I hope he’s feeling much better and will soon be allowed to play and enjoy summer. I’m glad you’ve had plenty of water in your rivers. Hopefully the drought and water problems will be a thing of the past.

I agree with you about the joy in the everyday. Though the gift from your precious grandson is certainly above and beyond the ordinary! What a sweetheart he is.
I’m glad for your rain as far as the drought abatement goes, but after last year, snowmelt, rain and flooding in the same sentence as Colorado strike fear into my heart.

It is a sadness to me that I have no little birds visiting my garden. I’ve tried putting out a feeder with seeds, bits of bread, fruit, etc, but there’s been no interest, and all that happened was a nice crop of assorted greenstuff underneath where the wind had scattered seed. Your irises and (I think) peonies are gorgeous, and your grandson’s castle is fabulous – he has a great career ahead of him building sets for movies!

Nice things are happening Linda. The castle is delightful and you must be so pleased about the ‘record melt’ despite the freezing winter that led to it. I know how important water is where you are.

What a COOL castle Bladen!
Mother Nature – sometimes makes ya wonder! (ps. I am flattered that you chose to use the oriole pix – they are quite the birds!) Hugs! Still sending magical wishes…. as rain expected here later this week. I’ll try and keep most of it – it’s needed here!
Such a sweet thing to do – hope he’s feeling much better very soon! Your yard is looking beautiful, Linda! We’ve got wildflowers starting to bloom like crazy – The hummers ought to be happy campers.
Our good snows last winter have caused some folks –too many problems this spring

Linda, did you plant the Passion Flowers? The first time I saw one was walking in the Ozark Mountains growing wild. Didn’t know what it was. They are the most unique flower!!
