A Sunny Day—Monday, December 15, 2014

SnowThe storm clouds are leaving our mesa, being pushed toward Grand Mesa and the towns surrounding the base of that huge massive plateau.

It’s cold here today.  I’m not complaining I can take cold; if I can see the sun…and I CAN see the sun!

I am sure  you have all heard that Colorado get 300 days of sunshine a year. (I have never counted, but the propaganda says that is what we have so I suppose it is true…)

What ‘they’ don’t tell you is some of the sunny winter days are COLD!  Really cold!  But once more — cold is relative…I’m sure cold in Alaska or Iceland or Siberia is (hummm) MUCH COLDER than here!

Oh, well…I’ll take the cold, if I can have the sun, and we do have the sun today.

IMG_4764The morning sunlight reflected off the transmission lines marching along the edge of the Uncompahgre Plateau (Un-come-pah-gray).  That is the edge of our corn field in the foreground, our mesa then drops down to some house along the flat, which then drops changes into Roubidoux canyon.  The canyon separates that tiny flock of houses from the transmission lines on the west side of the canyon.

2014

Time is starting to dwindle (now) in a head long rush toward Christmas.  Just for Christmas day we will have all our children, their mates, and our three grandchildren for noon dinner.

I will work myself to a nub, hope and pray the food tastes okay, and spend hours before the meal and after the meal in the kitchen.

It will be nice.

The time won’t be long enough, it never is, but for a few hours I will have them here all gathered around filling my heart.

The time is getting closer!  I can feel my heart starting to swell with joy–a cliche I know, but cliches do exist for a reason.

  2. We’re also enjoying some sunshine for the first time in several days. The day-time temperatures haven’t been too bad, but it has definitely been cold at night. I really like your Christmas tree. I’m glad you won’t have to worry about the corn harvest while getting ready for Christmas day.

  3. Yes, the sun is out and it’s cold on this side of the divide, too – but the sun is out! Sounds like a perfect Christmas Day you have planned – and I am sure it will be. Stay warm over there!

  4. Oh my, I am so far behind in my comments and readings!! Please excuse me. Last week was a busy one…got cards all done and the house decorated! Will do some baking this week, do a surprise birthday party for a friend and work at church. It’s a busy time of year!

    Last week was a foggy, high humidity week, so very little cotton harvest got done. 😦 Hopefully this week will be dry until a forecasted rain/snow event moves in Thursday night. Still have lots of cotton in the fields! So very glad you all got done with your corn harvest…a great feeling!!

    Boomer had a great article on Friday…give him a hug for me!! Your tree is very pretty, winter white and covered with snow, as is normal in Colorado in Winter. We had a silver one for awhile when I was young, then was always a real tree until about 12 years ago when I got an artificial one. Easier for me to handle! Merry Christmas to you, dear friend. Lots of hugs for you and Terry.

  5. Your tree is absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous!!! So are the mountain pictures. Stay warm my friend!! It’s 27* here right now and I saw a dreadful wreck coming into work this morning. One suv on it’s top, another on it’s side and a pickup in the median. Black ice!!

  6. Hi desert is cold and sunny. As far as I am concerned, anything 32 degrees and below is just cold…..doesn’t matter if it is in Alaska or here. Too cold for me. Your Christmas tree is lovely.

  8. I’m flattering my children into bringing their “special dishes” that we just can’t have a holiday without so that I can spend less time in the kitchen. But then we all know I tend to be somewhat of a slacker.

  11. Your tree is beautiful! I didn’t put a tree up this year. Too much going on…..oh well…
    It’s been spring like here with just a bite in the air to let you know it’s still winter! 🙂

  14. We haven’t seen the sun in over a week even though the temps have been mild. I think I am like you…I’ll take chilly temp as long as I see the sun. Having the kiddos around is the absolute best! I know you will savor the short time you have with them!

  16. The sun makes it “seem” warmer, even if it’s not.
    I hope you don’t wear yourself out too much to enjoy the kids for the holidays. Maybe don’t make quite so many side dishes?——Says the woman who makes FAR too many side dishes and desserts.

  19. We just had two smaller storms pass through, so you may be in for more rain. No wind, but plenty of nice loud THUNDAH! I know you’ll enjoy having your progeny over for the holiday. I know where the brandy is this year so I’m good. 😉

  20. Catching up from top down today; glad someone took that handsome kitty! And sorry such poor excuses for adult human beings dumped on you. Horridible people (a grand child’s word once long ago and it fits). Have a wonderful Christmas with your family! I’m sure they’re all as happy to be coming as you are to have them. And thank you for the gift of your daily posts which are so beautiful and which teach me so much. Merry Christmas!
