“It’s spring fever. That is what the name of it is. ANd when you’ve got it, you want-oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!”—Mark Twain
We’ve started moving fences; making the ‘farmed’ fields just a little bit bigger. Since we don’t have cows anymore and Mr. Davis’ cows have the run of the whole place Terry decided it was time to enlarge the fields and shrink the pastures.
So in our spare time we’ve been rolling wire and removing posts. It was a lot of work putting in to fences, but not so much taking them down. 🙂
We also have someone coming onto the place and shooting into our hills and into our neighbor’s hills.
Beats me why people have to cut fences and drive onto your place….and shoot! Shooting into the hillsides is really a bad thing.
While changing water the last two evenings we heard rifle shots.. we.headed up to the Rocky Point both nights to see people shooting into our neighbor’s hills right by their yearling calves and shooting into our Sage Brush Hills and our BlackBird Haven.
We headed down to the Flats to see who these people were and to ask them to leave—they saw us and jumped into their truck and took off across another neighbor’s fields. Goodness. The lack of respect astounds me!
To take off like that proves they knew they were NOT supposed to be down there and NOT supposed to be shooting. Sometimes I just don’t get people! Rather sad isn’t it?
😦 😦
I guess spring fever has them, also, but they need to go to a legal shooting range…not on someone else’s property whereby cows, dogs, little children could get hurt!
Your friend on a western Colorado Farm,
Linda

Sadly there will always be people like that Linda; we have them here too and they have absolutely no respect for wildlife whatsoever.

Or domestic animals…sure is a bad thing.

If you have to do that another time, take a camera and get a shot of them and their vehicle. I don’t know if permits are needed for shooting, but if they are, surely trespassing would get them withdrawn, especially if it’s endangering stock?

It would, I had my camera, but my range wasn’t long enough to get their license plate. Darn it.

And you don’t want to get too close to men with guns in any case….

No, not really.

I truly don’t understand people. We have the same problems here with trespassing. My favorite is when they shoot the no trespassing sign.

Or rip it off and fling it under a bush…grrr

I catch it from some people on the birding front for wearing blaze orange while birding. I guess birds can see it and are afraid of it. However, we have some of the same kind of trespassers and I need THEM to see me too. Spring turkey starts in a couple of weeks and there will be people in full camo hiding out in the fields and woods. We are all posted, but that doesn’t seem to matter. They can be pretty scary!
I don’t understand what kind of fool would cut a fence and then shoot in such a dangerous fashion either. Stay safe!

Me either, Marianne and we are ALL posted…we have to or we have legal troubles…not the trespassers.

Be careful, they sound like they could be dangerous. We love the Mark Twain quotation

Terry and I figured they would shoot us if we drove down there so we sat there and watched…they quickly drove off.

It sounds as if there are inconsiderate (I could probably use several other words to describe them) everywhere. Very few people seem to think about others any more.

You sure have that right, George. It’s really sad.

I agree…we get them at the river once in a while…or the local kids shooting at signs without a thought as to their bullets trajectory.

Linda – unfortunately the word “RESPECT” has been thrown down the “gurgler”
with the bath water.
I think we all know why, but new fangled “I have my right laws” seem to have
taken over, even when the person is not observing a clear sign.
I have given up – yesterday some idiot here jumped down on the rail tracks ( fine
$500) to catch a train on the adjoining platform for the sake of saving – 30 Seconds!!!!
All on camera – will be caught. Idiots – it is a wonder you way over in Colorado didn’t hear
my outburst at the idiot – he was NOT a feral – someone actually going to work!
A prison laundry might be the next job position – ha ha!
Hope your idiot offenders and trespassers are caught – a Colorado Prison laundry
may await???
Cheers
Colin
PS: Thanks for “H/R” reply.

No, it’s not spring fever. It’s disrespect, pure and simple. If they had killed the calves, they wouldn’t have cared. They obviously don’t care if they wound or kill anything. It is the disintegration of morals in America, aided by the destruction of the family structure as it was intended to be. Very sad indeed.
I’m glad no one and nothing has been hurt, as far as you know. God bless.

So far…the neighbor whose fence they cut to drive across his land to get to our land has now fixed the fence. Let’s see if it stops them….

Spring fever makes me lethargic. Not sure why. But having someone shooting on my land illegally would set a fire in me. Flat scary

The gun thing scares me to death Linda. Be careful out there. People who would disrespect other’s property could do so much worse.
So the cows are not coming back next year? I must have missed that post.

The cows come back every year. They come in February and leave the first week of March. I love having them.

We found out there were hunting fox. GRRR…..We told them our place is posted and no hunting of anything allowed. That lets the fox be, if they can make it to our place.
