That time of the year, when hunters feel like your land is their land. Who cares if there is a fence of two in the way. Just clip the strands and head on into the wilderness called ‘somebody else’s farm’. Grrr.
Terry and I fixed fence Saturday and reposted the NO Trespassing Signs.
Will it work? Who knows. My Dad always said: “Locks and gates only keep out the honest person”.
Sigh.
Sure makes me shake my head in puzzlement, at the audacity, of some people.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
Maybe some new signs saying ‘Trespassers Are Fair Game’, ‘Thanks For Wearing Orange, It Makes It Easier To Shoot You’, ‘You Break My Fence, I Break Your Gun’….

I’m sorry you have to go through this every year. Farming is hard enough as it is.

It is a bit like this here Linda – there are so many public footpaths around here as it is such
a tourist area, that folk think every field is open for walking (even if the grass is long and being kept for silage – makes no difference) = and don’t get me started on dog and leashes).

Its deer season here and all day long I hear gunshots. I hate it — why can’t they go up higher in the Sierra and away from us folks who love peace and quiet? And, like you said, they pay no attention to no trespassing signs or fences.

They either cut them or pull out the staples or break them down climbing over. Sigh!

Amazing that fences and No Trespassing signs aren’t a clear enough message. Ugh.

They aren’t. Only works for the person that is respectful of others property.

Good luck – makes you really see RED with these types.
I as a kid going to school – 8 miles on horse back at the grand age of
8 years had one rule installed into me as did all the property kids.
“SHUT THE GATES’ – or else. You can well imagine what “OR ELSE”
implied.
I cannot think of anything else on this subject – just hope that this year
your “unwanted invaders” can read.
Cheers
Colin

They can’t…it’s just to protect us. If we are not posted and a trespasser falls and gets hurt on our property they can SUE us! If we are posted they can’t. It won’t stop those who cross over onto our property, but it will protect us in case of a law suit. Sigh!

Some laws, eh??????
Really WHO dreams up these laws.
Your property and you didn’t invite them.
They broke the rule so if they fall and injure themselves
I’d just leave the bastards there for the coyotes or
any meandering snake.

I can’t believe anyone would ignore a no tresspassing sign, let alone cut a fence; outrageous! Who do they think they are? This just makes me so mad on your behalf. I am not predisposed to like hunting at all in this day and age and this behavior certainly reinforces that feeling. (Bill used to hunt long ago, as his father grew up hunting because they needed the food. But even my father-in-law changed his mind about the ‘sport’ before he died — and Bill hasn’t hunted for years. I honestly question whether anyone should these days.

We like to have our deer, quail, pheasants, geese, crane, rabbits, squirrels and, yes, even the coyotes life free upon our land. Therefore we have abundant wildlife….which also draws those who think they get to take because we have.

Put up one of those signs with a gun that says “Protected by 2nd Amendment” or of a doberman that says: “I can make it to the gate in 5 seconds, can you?”
