Yesterday, Monday, we started the 2016 Corn Harvest!
It’s early this year! Wonderfully so!
Before Halloween even! With blue skies and nice weather! Sure is a nice feeling.
Last year, we were not able to harvest in 2015.
Nope, it was in January before we could even begin!
So far we are way, way, way ahead of last year’s harvest!
2016 is an amazing year…we harvested corn in January and now again in October!
Not many years can boast two corn harvests in one year!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
How very different your farming world is from ours and how fascinating to read about.

So far so good. If we have no break downs and the lines are not too long we should be done in a couple of weeks.

That’s Nature for you: takes with one hand and gives back with the other! I’m so glad you’re ahead of schedule; perhaps now you’ll be able to take winter a little easier…?

Too much humidity in the air. This year we are ‘normal’ dry!

Me too! Terry says the cobs are not as long as he likes, but they are nice and fat.

Olathe-sweet? or a more “Delta” variety?

Dry corn, the kind you have in your cereal or the animals eat.

Oh, so happy for you!! It’s a great feeling to be able to get your crops out of the field! Some are harvesting cotton here, but we are probably several weeks away from being ready. Our cotton was planted late due to heavy Spring rains. It is looking good, but time will tell if the fiber length and strength are good quality or not.
Love your pictures! Glad to have you back online! Blessings!

Terry and I were watching RFD TV and they were saying the cotton harvest was just starting. I sure hope you have an excellent crop!

So glad that your harvest is occurring on time, and also glad to see you back! I was getting worried that something more serious than an Internet outage might be going on. Good news all around!

12 days is a terribly long time, but the company was very gracious and gave me a nice discount on my bill!

I am so happy you are back…I was worried about you. I, too, hoped your absence was just an internet problem. I live just up the road in Grand Junction but I am a farm/ranch person at heart.

You are just 40 minutes away! We go into Junction for a break every now and then.

Glad you’re ‘back in the saddle’ Linda, been missing you. I remember your trial of not being able to harvest the corn in ’15, so this is great. Once in great while there are harvesting problems here in SW Iowa due to snow and in those times there are two harvests the following year too. Now look at me– be safe — ignore the temptation to rush. Thank You for sharing.

So far the moisture is staying at 13. Each field…so we are celebrating. Hope to be done in a couple of weeks!

if my me(s)mory was better (&/or took better notes) I could/would more-accurately compare the years and seasons. however, nothing (much) beats watchin’ the farm to accurately gauge the precession of the seasons ! funny, though, cottonwoods are still pretty golden “down here” — whereas the Mesa looks kind of gray/brown ~
