Makes My Farmers’ Heart Glad—-Wednesday, October 25, 2016

corn-harvest-002Yesterday, Monday, we started the 2016 Corn Harvest!

corn-harvest-003It’s early this year!  Wonderfully so!

corn-harvest-004Before Halloween even!  With blue skies and nice weather!  Sure is a nice feeling.

Last year, we were not able to harvest in 2015.

Elevator-2

Nope,  it was in January before we could even begin!

Before-DawnSo far we are way, way, way ahead of last year’s harvest!

terry2016 is an amazing year…we harvested corn in January and now again in October!

Not many years can boast two corn harvests in one year!

  1. Oh, so happy for you!! It’s a great feeling to be able to get your crops out of the field! Some are harvesting cotton here, but we are probably several weeks away from being ready. Our cotton was planted late due to heavy Spring rains. It is looking good, but time will tell if the fiber length and strength are good quality or not.

Love your pictures! Glad to have you back online! Blessings!

  2. I am so happy you are back…I was worried about you. I, too, hoped your absence was just an internet problem. I live just up the road in Grand Junction but I am a farm/ranch person at heart.

  3. Glad you’re ‘back in the saddle’ Linda, been missing you. I remember your trial of not being able to harvest the corn in ’15, so this is great. Once in great while there are harvesting problems here in SW Iowa due to snow and in those times there are two harvests the following year too. Now look at me– be safe — ignore the temptation to rush. Thank You for sharing.

  4. if my me(s)mory was better (&/or took better notes) I could/would more-accurately compare the years and seasons. however, nothing (much) beats watchin’ the farm to accurately gauge the precession of the seasons ! funny, though, cottonwoods are still pretty golden “down here” — whereas the Mesa looks kind of gray/brown ~
