It is high summer the sky is a clear blue, the heat is elevated, afternoon thunder storms roll in cooling us down; the humidity causing us pant in desperation
Yet the summer has been good…all the hay is sold; first and second cuttings.
Blade helped…nice for him and for us!
The corn is starting to tassel out!
The pinto beans are growing right along…
The last cultivation of all crops is over for the rest of the year! 🙂
High Summer…the best part of the year.
Come winter I will be assailed by memories
Of these innocent heat filled days.
Come winter…
….I won’t think of that bleak time ahead. Instead I will enjoy this spot in time.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

Love the hollyhocks, I wonder why they are not more popular,

You are right they are very out of fashion. If you would like some seed I would send you some!

I love them and have lots. Love any flower that grows and re seeds around here. I really like the pink color. I have lots of yellow if you want to exchange seeds. They draw the hummingbirds. Do your hummers like yours?

Yes! Colorado’s weather is the very best of anywhere this time of year. Days can be amazingly satisfying.

It was so hot this year some of the hollyhocks did terrible! Now that we are having rain the ones left to bloom are outstanding! Thank you, Diane!

Lovely hollyhocks. We had all different colors when I was a kid, white, yellow, pink, red and almost black (my favorite). They grew mixed in a patch of mixed color phlox (white, pink, lavender) and the combination just means summer for me. I wish the hollyhocks and phlox were more popular, so many people tore out old patches of phlox (I admit, they did need to be kept in bounds and they’re tenacious perennials). I love summer.

It was actually a very deep red, but it sure looked black. I did see some in a seed catalog but don’t remember what one – I’ll check and if I find it I’ll let you know.

It is! He leaves this week to go stay with his Uncle in the eastern part of Colorado. Jeff is a large diesel mechanic so wants to give Blade some exposure to mechanic work.

Everything looks good in your photos. Is your corn for feed or is it sweet corn? 🌽

Feed. Sweet corn is too expensive to grow!!!

Thankfully I can grow them! I have tried for years to grow roses, but we are way too hot and much to windy for them. So this works, YAY!

I think they fit Colorado better than roses anyhow. 🙂
