“August has passed, and yet summer continues by force to grow days. They sprout secretly between the chapters of the year, covertly between its pages.”— Johnathan Safran Foer
The horrible fires here in the west

Are wrecking havoc on all the wonderful trees, homes, and lives of people—although the news is not mentioning anything about them.
Our skies tell the story….clouds running thin and high or even slackening veering off to other places … leave only the smoke to color the world
We work under that huge orange orb; evening, noon, and
Morning.
Although, there are no fires right here. There is testiment, in the skies, of the horror others in the west are experiencing.
The sun, like a torch (which it is) throwing masses of color into the air…speaks volumes of the terror stalking those in the burning west.
From my heart to your world.
Linda

This planet is desperately trying to send us messages that can’t be misinterpreted, and yet we continue to misinterpret them. When are we going to take care of our home?

I’m sorry to hear about all those fires, but they did give you some pretty skies.

my wife just returned from a week in P. (OR) — babysitting grandkids and commented on this — that one could see flames near Hood River? Ooh! my only memories of H.R. are semi-continual rain and wet — and the family tells me that THAT is presently not true in the least! scary ~

D > Goodness me, all those fires? Okay, fires are part of nature’s plan, but I bet most were started by humans, purposefully or accidentally.

origin? I would surmise that with things as dry and lots of “fuel” — a heat-lightning strike would more than do the trick. anything — I’ve heard of off-road vehicles pulling onto a grassy area to stop, and the hot exhaust pipes would ignite the grass ~
I live in “DayPhoto”s area, and we haven’t had appreciable precipitation for many weeks. : (

We are seeing your fires on the news Down Under. I suppose we suffer huge fires in the same way, so it’s a matter of interest, sympathy and fellow feeling. My thoughts are with everyone affected.

The smoke does make the colors interesting but I can do without it. I haven’t been out for a walk in 2 days doe to air quality. My heart is breaking for those trying to load up large animals in trailers to go heaven only knows where with them to safely. All because a bunch of teenagers thought it would be fun to drop smoke bombs (fireworks) into the gorge. 20,000 acres so far. I’ve been through an evacuation order and had to leave my home for 10 days wondering if we would have something to come back to. One corner flooding, the other burning. And still there is no respect for our planet. I’m picking my sister up at the airport today after her trip to Denver. It will be interesting to compare notes.

We get these red, glowing orbs along the Front Range as well. Fires in the west, flooding in Texas, hurricanes in the Caribbean…It is all very disconcerting.

I know, it’s so heartbreaking… And now there’s the one up by Steamboat. It is so smokey over here too. Visibility very limited. They are saying that the winter’s snow will put them out. 😦
