Terry had the corn checked for moisture and we were DRY!
Out to the field we went, joy mantling our cheeks
On Tuesday’s bright late morning in October (thankfully not January like a couple of years ago) smelling of dry corn stalks, and shelled corn we began filling the truck!
By 1:15 in the afternoon the first load was down to Elevators. By 2:30 p.m. it was back in the field.
Now…hopefully there are no breakdowns, or some sort of crisis, or rain…rain would not be a good thing right; harvest is here!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda
Woo Hoo! Fingers crossed the rain stays off. I’m so glad you don’t have to hang on this year…

No, just through the setting sun…the fire was more to the southwest of us.

well, again, my ‘judgment’ of how far and where seems to be pretty much off-the-mark/shot. my brother was driving back from Olathe and thought it might be a controlled burn (!). oh, I googled “current fires in colo” and still nothing showed up in our area — nearest would be Parachute and Dove Creek.

It was a huge fire…I wondered if some hunter started it.

Fabulous! God is good and gives those who work hard and plant well a harvest, even when they have to wait till January. I’m glad that this year the harvest is in October.

Yay!! I hope it continues to go well for you! We just harvested our corn and beans over the past two days, and it’s a good feeling to be finished. All except for about 5 acres of corn that Jim wants to pick because the moisture level was a bit too high yet when the combine came, and he didn’t want to be docked at the mill.

We understand that. The last two fields have been around 12%. We have one more two go…about 20 acres…he’s checking the moisture now; we may have to wait until Monday or so.

The moisture was too high so we stopped for a spell—maybe again on Monday or Tuesday
