There is still much to do, farm work does not stop just because it’s Autumn
It actually speeds up for this season is the accumulation of winter, spring, and summer
It’s a good time, though. It’s the time of Harvest where the demands of the day increase.
(I just bought myself a new work coat…well, actually I got TWO new work coats…looking at this one, it was time 🙂 )
The corn harvest is getting very close. We were thinking we would start Monday, but not quite yet.
The moisture content of the kernels is 15.5% —as soon as we hit 15% the combine will head into the field, the big grain truck will follow it and there we will be…
in the harvest.
These late Fall days, cool and growing short, deplete our energy, but the work nourishes us.
Winter nears—the leaves are falling like yellow flecks of light on the tired ground.
Everything and everyone is singing the song of Fall.

Looks like fun! Wish I had 40 acres with a nice stream/pond and a house smack in the middle of it in Western Colorado. You can take the boy out of the country, but can never take the country out of the boy

From what you and Cloudy have told us you have a lovely large area where you live.

Terry like winter the best, because the work load is very, very light!

I know…it was hard to throw away, but more than time.

Autumn could be the slowest time for us, although we rarely actually slow down. I prefer to get ahead of some chores so that we can slow down a bit during late winter instead. Irrigation is not as demanding now. Yet, we have not started to clean up for winter yet As things slow down a bit, we eventually start to clean up more. Because we are surrounded by redwood forest, the storms are very messy here. It is hard to believe that just a few miles from a chaparral climate where I got about a foot of rain (average) annually, we are in a rain forest. The weather brings down a lot of debris, that clogs ditches. No matter how efficiently we clean ahead of winter, it will be a mess once the rain starts.

I think you are lucky to live in, or close, to those amazing trees!

We are more blessed than lucky. The trees are a major part of our lifestyle here. Just like climate influences architecture, the debris falling from so many huge redwoods influences the steep slopes and simplicity of the roofs. Low pitched roofs or roofs with complicated drainage patterns, collect the debris and rot. The mess is a lot of work, but it is so worth it.

I tried but the material is so thin the needle ripped it more. So I gave it a toss! Thank you though.
