In working on one of the old buildings here on the farm,
We found an old steam iron. It must have been put out there to prop up a door or even to store, but over time it fell into the dirt and was buried.
How cool this is. And what an amazing thing to iron with!

How exciting to find such an antique. My last husband had a whole collection of old irons. They are quite heavy.

What an interesting find! It is truly a piece of Americana. My grandother had a flat iron that she heated on their wood-burning stove, but I had never seen a steam iron before.

That is what I was thinking. That is just too much work. Not only did someone need to operate such contraptions, but it was more necessary because the fabrics that do not get ironed had not been popularized yet, and people were not so tolerant of wrinkles.

Iron? Can you imagine ironing one day a week? Monday was for washing, Tuesday for ironing. No wonder women those days had lots of muscles; that iron looks heavy.
BTW, the Sandhills came back yesterday to 2 feet of snow here. Poor things.
