Just LOOK at the green of that alfalfa. All the goodness locked away to feed some happy stock later in the year. LikeLike Reply ↓
It is a nice feeling. One more field to go and one more field to plant into alfalfa. LikeLike Reply ↓
That is fabulous hay! You literally cannot make alfalfa hay that green here. It is never dry enough. Just beautiful! LikeLike Reply ↓
Thank you, Marianne! We just got it up and then the rains came. Sure glad it was up and in the stack yard. LikeLike Reply ↓
Three cuttings a year here. Plant one year before you can harvest. The crop lasts for 3-5 years then must be plowed up and planted to something else. LikeLike Reply ↓
So it is a semi-perennial or, rather, a perennial that you have to turn over for the land to replenish nutrients? LikeLike Reply ↓
Here you go. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfalfa Some people call it lucerne. It’s a perennial. The root is HUGE. But after three to 5 years the plant is spent so must be plowed under and something else planted in it’s place. LikeLike Reply ↓
