In the Cool Gloom of the Corn —- Thursday, August 12, 2021

The lively action of the ears developing

Signals of an abundant crop come Autumn.

The long and dark shadows cool the earth offering shade to any who need it.

Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

  1. Glad that your corn is looking good! We are not as far along as you folks are around here, but the corn also looks pretty nice. Good thing, as it has been ridiculously hard for anyone to get any hay. Fields that normally would be on their third cutting on many of the top farms haven’t even had their first cut taken off yet.

  2. They caught an arsonist here who had set a number of fires. Some fires were set to trap firefighters between fires. I have wondered why we had so many lightening and “spontaneous” fires. There weren’t any fires in the Dust Bowl and during the 50s when droughts and heat were so much worse. I also wonder why we don’t have more fire fighting capacity. We seem able to pay for everything else.

So glad it is better there,

    Remember your masks.
