It’s that time of year when we haul dirt from the settling pond
One truckload at a time.
The wind was terrible in the afternoons
With little showers the first day
After 16 loads Terry said–“Done for now, we will get the rest later in the year.”
It wouldn’t have been too bad but for the wind.
Anyway,
Done for now.
We go home to hot baths, a light supper, and to stop for a spell.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

Looks like good dirt. Wish I could move it down here for the gardens. It’s good to be busy. I’ve been sitting around waiting for my left thumb to heal from surgery. Had severe arthritis and was getting so I didn’t have a grip. Amazing how much you use your thumb. Before that, I couldn’t do anything because it was too cold and had way too much snow. It’s melting and Lightner Creek is running full bore.

My hands are the same and in the summer when the sun hits them it’s worse and itchy. The sun hates my body!!!
Explain to me what the settling ponds are?

They take the dirt out of the canal water, and it settles into the bottom filling up the pond. Then the pond has to be dug out so more dirt and water can come in. We then move the dirt to farm to use all over again 🙂

Makes sense but we don’t have to worry about that here. No restrictions on water.

Oh, but we are. We still work as hard as ever, but it does take us longer to get everything done 🙂
