But, I must admit, I have finally, finally, finally
Grown to the point, I am enjoying this winter. Who would have ever thought so? Not me, even as late as last Spring.
Last summer was beautiful and intense
But the haying about did in both Terry and I. We took off 1,000 bales of alfalfa three times, and 400 bales of grass three times—600 bales of alfalfa/grass mix three times and the heat, plus the work about did us in. Thankfully, every bale sold just about as soon as I put up the advertisement. YAY!
By October we were overly tired.
The corn harvest had its share of concern, but at least the days were cooler. That helped.
January and winter bring cold and a type of dreamy state. Yes, there is equipment to work on and other bits of this and that to fix, but the weeds are no longer an issue, getting the water to the plants finished, and ensuring all the crops stay healthy is over—-and no lawn to mow!!! PLUS WORK ON SOMETHING THAT BROKE DOWN AS IT WAS BEING USED!
Now it’s keeping the house warm, and resting a bit.
Soon the cows will come and the farm will be a live with activity.
Until then, as I said—we will work on getting the equipment ready for spring, keep the wood pile high, and do other things of interest.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

I love when things slow down a bit in the winter. Sure, there’s feeding and animal care, but not all the other farm work. Usually I enjoy a real slow down after Christmas and through January, but this year is out of control already. Sigh…

Ours is a tad tight, but still some quality down time which is so necessary

I loved winter as a kid and a younger adult. Now? Not so much. Winter makes my joints hurt.
Enjoying your cows?

Yes! Slowing down with some well deserved rest is a good thing. Bringing in fire wood is somehow relaxing ~
Enjoy!

For some crazy reason I do like working with the fire wood 🙂

While I agree there are many good things about winter, I still can’t honestly say that I ‘enjoy’ it.

You both work so hard in the Spring and Summer and even into the corn harvest. I hope you enjoy your winter off!
