We were experiencing a terrible winter storm….. on Sunday, Monday, and early Tuesday morning.
Temperatures dropped to freezing with windchill at 22*. The wind was sharp, sharp, sharp.
Once more, our year will be incomplete from that lush golden fruit called apricot.
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,
Linda

That is sad. I love you apricots. We tried to order trees from CSU but they were sold out.

Apricots have a hard, hard time in our area (remember) once every five or six years we get a crop

Close to same happened here in NE Texas. I’m sure I’ve lost my early fruiting peaches and also I had a dwarf apple tree blooming like crazy before this most recent temperature dip and wind/sleet storm. No blooms now. Oh well, maybe next year (go Cubs)! Hope you have a lovely day.

So sad! We are having weird weather too. I am hoping the heavy snow saves the less hardy perennials, which were starting to grow back during the warm spell. Hugs!

I do share the loss of those wonderful fruits. Last spring , as my cherries and peaches were blooming we had a freak freeze that got hem both. the peaches are always a bit iffy here in Central Massachusetts, but the cherries are reliable harvest. Saping for maple syrup has also been starting earlier each year, and ending sooner too. I fell terible for the family farms that depend upon these resources for a livelihood. I hope this is the last big “surprise” of the growing season for you!

I wish they didn’t bloom so early, but it is what it is.

Chaplin: “We used to have two apricot trees here that produced the best apricots Mama and Dada ever had! But sadly they both died within a year of each other.”
Charlee: “We don’t know if they got sick or they just got old. But Dada says apricots from the store don’t taste nearly as good.”
Chaplin: “I think the squirrels probably agree.”
Lulu: “Did someone say squirrels?!”

In a way—they do add more work. Although, they are very yummy after the work is done 🙂
