The cranes have found our farm!
They are HUGE birds! Standing 5′ tall.
They are big, loud, and very shy!
I used some of my photos from the archives to show you up close and personal. I haven’t been able to get very close so far.
One nice thing about winter is the BIG birds!
Your friend on a western Colorado farm,

Oh my! Do they come every year? Are they on a migratory path or somewhat local? I have so many questions 🙂

That’s amazing and so many! I used to see cranes at times in marshy estuaries in Puget Sound back in WA but never large flocks like this. How lucky you are 🙂

We saw a flock of thousands at the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge in North Alabama. They are stunning birds! https://retirementrvdream.com/2025/12/14/seeing-whooping-cranes-among-the-sandhill-cranes/

It was an amazing experience, on par with seeing manatees in the springs in Florida, the turtles swimming in Hawaii, and whales in the Atlantic.

I’m happy that the cranes have come back to the farm. I know you enjoy their visits and I hope you have the opportunity to get more good pictures this year.
