Weather — Whether Here or There

The weather is always such an interesting subject.  I suppose it is because we all live so close to the land that weather is part and parcel of what we do every day.

We are still having rain.  Some days just a down pour or two, some days lots of rain, or just a gentle rain that goes on for days.  Anyway it is more rain than normal…. we are also experiencing signs that an early fall and a hard winter are on the way. (Sigh.  Double Sigh)

Weirdly the milkweed plants are already setting seed pods, weeds that never show up until late August are blooming wildly right now and there are other signs.

I dread winter!!!  I love spring, summer, and fall, but winter drags on me.  Just plain drags and to think of one that comes early and lasts long….oh, I don’t even want to go there.

So here is a photo of the down pour three days ago.  With an afternoon thunderstorm predicated for today.  The sun sure has been nice!  And it IS July so I have several months before I have to worry, now don’t I?

  1. Dry here in WI, and my raspberries could use a drink. I’m a bit of an oddity–even in my own family, for I LOVE winter. I enjoy summer the least of the seasons, fall and winter are my favorite, spring tells me summer is on its way. I am enjoying this summer for we have had cool days and alot of cool nights.

  2. Hmmmm I do not like the idea of an early fall. Seemed like summer didn’t start till July because of all the strange cold weather. Guess we will make do 9o:

  3. I’ve had my fill of cloudy skies and drizzle. Global warming for us in the Pacific Northwest means more clouds and rain from evaporation off the ocean. UGH. I long for sunny days and summer nights. So does my garden! 🙂

  4. What I would give for one of those downpours! Looks refreshing.
We are in the middle of winter, and I feel like you. They drag on and on, but not because of the cold weather, rather because it can´t rain in the winter time…..

  5. Hi there Linda, Yes it has been an interesting summer but since this is only my second summer I’m not sure what normal is! Early fall and winter-no, we haven’t even had a dry month yet. I wonder what a hard winter is-the first year(07)we were here the locals said we got more snow than normal and this last winter was dryer than normal(minus a couple of blizzards). We’re going to New Mexico at the beginning of Oct.so I hope there won’t be snow that early.
    Have a blessed day.

  6. We have had a wet winter so far, usually it is dry.Our wet season is summer.Thankfully we have had only 2 frosts, but I suspect more is on the way.I cant beleive we are in the second week of July already, time flies. Our day time temps have been a moderate 20c(68f in your lingo)Im guessing thats not real cold to you !!! lol.The nights have been down to 2c (36f)By September we will be seeing the heat return.I just hate going from winter to summer…but so often we seem to miss out on spring.I am in sub-tropical Queensland, further south they have a nice cover of snow :0)And in the Top End they are getting a balmy 30c(86f)in winter!

  7. They must have left a trainee in charge of the weather this year. Rivers over their banks. Flooding in Pocatello. But the farmers in the high country are saving big bucks every day they don’t have to run the big center pivot sprinklers. Silver linings. Don’t want to even THINK about the cold “W” word.

  9. It has been quite the summer of weather this year! We have had hail here but havent heard of much damage. But there has been hail damage in WY. First cutting has not been good for our neighbors either as there was so much rain and hail. Not good.

For 24 hrs-yesterday- there was storm after storm. Rained off and on all day long. Should be able to WATCH the corn grow! lol

  10. wow your first line says it perfectly.. life here whether it’s haying or riding horses is so much dictated by the weather… something that’s been real hard for me to get used to… i guess it’s one of G-d’s lessons for me to learn to “flow with the go”! 🙂

    blessings
gp where the horses get their nightly bath from the thunderstorms!

  11. Oh boy, I am sorry about so much rain. We need some, but I wouldn’t want that much.

Summer must be very short for you guys, where here, summer is always long, and we have very short winters.
